    Fuel level sensor replacement

Great, thanks - that’s a great find! But ooft they are not cheap! I wonder how difficult it would be to retrofit a more standard type with the 5 hole pattern.

    Fuel level sensor replacement

Hi folks, My fuel level sensor is constantly reading zero (with fuel in the tank) so i think it’s tine to replace it. Issue is I’ve not seen one like this before - does anyone recognise it and have a recommendation for replacement? Thanks!

    Engine fuse blowing

Hi, I have a relatively recent (approx 4 year old) Vetus M3.09 25HP inboard in my yacht. Recently I've been going through quite a lot of fuses on the engine. There is a 31mm glass tubular 10A fuse on the engine itself (in a push and twist holder on the box which houses the electronics), it is...

Wifi booster relay - NOT ANTENNA

I have a setup similar to what is being asked for. On a spreader I have a large (1m) wifi antenna connected to a Ubiquiti networks bullet. There are used for commercial wifi networking for mobile phone comms backhaul between masts etc. They are cheap. It connects via Ethernet to a power...

    AIS and Raymarine C Screen

I use the Raymarine AIS unit with a C70, it has a multiplexer and VHF splitter built-in. As far as I can remember it takes fast heading from my Raymarine autopilot at full speed.

    Inverter for portable computers

Does it work with the engine running (i.e. inverter at alternator voltage)? Could be that your battery is on the way out and the inverter senses too low a voltage on the battery when it's drawing a bit of current and shuts itself down...

    Digital Yacht WiFi Aerial

It seems Vodafone have stopped doing this for new customers - I advised somebody to go that route a couple of weeks ago then realised the credit now expires after 30 days of topping up. A great pity, it was a really good option

    Irish Sea early in May

Another option to consider would be the Forth & Clyde canal - it's MUCH cheaper (£6/m and £16.50/m!) than the Caledonian Canal and although the locks are unmanned, a team of lock keepers follow in a van and operate all locks for you. Issues may be that depth is only 1.83m and max headroom (air...

    VHF - Transmission issues

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll look for volt drop using a meter at the radio end of the cable. I'll also look at an emergency aerial as I had been planning on getting one anyway for when using the forth & clyde canal with the mast unstepped. Cheers, FJ

    VHF - Transmission issues

Hi, I've got an issue with my VHF. I replaced the aerial over winter after discovering that the previous owner had a piece of coax run to the top of the mast which did not connect to the aerial! So, a brand new aerial, cable and deck plug were procured and installed. However, I was told the...

Stern Gland - oil instead of grease?

[ QUOTE ] I might be wrong but if my memory serves me correctly some of the Colvics are fitted with a duel system. In other words there is a traditional gland packing seal, but behind that the shaft is lubricated by an oil system, rather than sea water as you normally find. If I remember...

Stern Gland - oil instead of grease?

It's certainly not a big ship, just a 20' yacht ) It still has the usual tightening facility which when tightened reduces the drips and a locking ring which was what made me think that it was just a normal stern gland with packing in it. Did the oil filled shaft types also have packing...

Stern Gland - oil instead of grease?

Hi, On my Colvic Watson the stern gland seems to have an unusual lubricating arrangement. Rather than the traditional bottle with screw to force the grease in, there is a unit on the deck filled with what looks like oil and a lever which pumps the oil into the gland. The gland isn't...
