The Yanmar is basically a very simple engine. The horizontal cylinder has a replaceable wet-liner sealed by O rings so a new one might be obtainable if the old one is beyond redemption. For removal, the engine can probably be part dismantled in the boat to minimise weight lifting.
Without the thermistor connection the function of the display changes. It looks for wind information from the seatalk bus rather than from the transducer; ie repeater mode.
Just to expand my earlier post. If the fault is due to the transducer thermistor failure, as frequently happens, the display goes into repeater mode. A resistor across the display brown & white wire terminals should restore normal master instrument operation. Value is not critical but 10kohm is...
For the ST60 Wind to display Seatalk wind information, ie not directly connected to a MHU, then won't it need a repeater mode of operation? I don't think that it has, though I'm open to correction.
You need to dismantle both the TP22 and TP10 to seeif the rods are interchangable. IIRC the TP10 is a plain screw and the TP22 a ball screw, so interchangability is perhaps unlikely. I would have thought any reasonable depth of weld would be adequate when dressed, but it needs to be well done...
I think that any DIY intervention will still leave a battered looking boom and has a risk of further weakening it by extending the crack. If you succeed in finding a replacement, or possibly paying for a good professional repair, the cost can be offset against improved boat re-sale value.
Came across this recently. Perhaps about time. Doesn't seem to have been picked up on the forum. Duchy of Cornwall steps in over rising tide of abandoned boats
Perhaps not that much filing required. If, say, an imperial shaft at 1:12 taper, filing just 1/32" off the key will give 3/8" extra engagement of the taper, which looks roughly what you might need guesstimating from the photos.. A metric shaft is likely to be 1:10. What you must ensure of course...
A laser welder, as a home workshop tool, is new to me. Looking at the prices, £5K upwards, I don't think I'll be investigating any further. A £700 "Laser Welder" on ebay seemed to be a fairly normal mig set @200amps. with the word Laser written on the case. What sort of safety precautions are...
