    River restaurant reviews

Spent the evening in Windsor and ate in Sebastians, a family run Italian in a backstreet near the station and shopping centre. It’s a must visit for us, great food, great service and great atmosphere. Wandered over to Eton and went to no19 wine and champagne bar in the high street. Great wine...

    Lashbrook / Wargrave moorings

I think the TVM mooring signs disappeared quite some time ago. A no mooring sign went up on a tree a little way downstream from the gate to the footpath but disappeared quite quickly. This spot is a long way from either Marsh or Shiplake lock and I doubt the keepers there ever monitor the site...

Days Lock moorings (Bishops Court Farm)

I've not tried it, but I enquired last year and they were very helpful. I had two issues, whether there's sufficient depth on the "Lake Field" mooring and spot opposite the lock, plus the "Thames Path" moorings, just above the entrance to the Thame and at one time a very popular spot, were...

Permanent moorings between Pangbourne and Marlow

There's a small marina at Bourne End, although I suspect you will get the same answer. Anything available at Temple which is opposite Harleyford?

    Showing Thames licence

I bought some permit holders online. There were two in a packet for £2.29. Just make sure they are the right size because some of the ones which came up were a bit too small.

    Kennet / Thames help

I'm not sure what the bridge heights are. There a couple of quite low bridges around the Oracle shopping centre in Reading, but most small cruisers should be able to navigate them with the canopy down. It's a wide beam canal so feasible for vessels other than narrow boats. The bigger issue is...

    Beautiful Thames ?

I don't really have any experience of any of the other rivers mentioned to make a comparison, but the Thames has variety and beauty throughout it's length. Everyone waxes on about the Cliveden reach, but for some reason I find it a bit dark and foreboding and I prefer the Goring Gap and the...

Rods Eyot Islanders charged to moor on Henley Bank

Interesting. I get the impression the residents there feel they should have unfettered access to the Henley bank. Last year we moored opposite the island and a lady coming across in her small boat was a bit snooty because it appears we were in "her" space. I offered to make more room for her...

    Police incident

We went upstream this weekend and it didn’t feel too busy with no queues at the locks. Plenty of boats at the usual hotspots at pangbourne and goring. Beale park moorings back in use and plenty of boats there but no real problem getting a space. There were quite a few paddle boards out and a few...

    Some good news...

That is good news. The Beale Park website now says they will be providing more information about mooring spaces soon which suggests they may be controlled in some way. Not that I think that is a bad thing given the problems experienced last year, but I just wonder where your information came from.

    Moorings at Dreadnought Reach

Things have changed a bit since you moored there Ian. You are correct that David Sherrif retained land to the left as you enter the marina, but some of this has been dug out and pontoons installed. There may be a couple of finger pontoons, I haven't really paid that much attention to what is...

    Hambleden Lock

Phew, this thread has grown. I passed through Hambledon two or three times last year and did not have a problem with the layby. I have a vague memory that there may have been one small boat at the back of the layby and I was initially confused about its intentions, but it really wasn't a...

    Days lock/Thame moorings/Fleur de Lys

I use Ringgo for parking as it’s simple and convenient, no messing around with coins and tickets falling off the window. I always assumed that they were just a convenient way of paying and were not involved in enforcement, but that may be wrong.

EA 'lock' mooring fees - changes

Whilst I don’t particularly like having to register for the free 24 hours it isn’t really that difficult and so I’m inclined to agree with this

    Beale park moorings

We rang Beale yesterday and left a message and to our surprise, and to their credit, they rang back this morning. The very nice lady who rang was very apologetic but they have had serious problems there this summer with so many people around with rubbish, including excrement, discarded towels...
