Beta vs Yanmar (30hp inboard) ?

I had a 21 HP Nanni in my H28. Easy to maintain, no anodes and very reliable. I couldn't even fry the alternator when the connections fell off. Less agricultural looking than the Beta and bigger alternator as standard. At least that is the case in Auckland.

    "Proper" Speed

I was looking at the Navigation Safety Bylaw (harbour regulations) for Auckland Harbour and they use the term proper speed when referring to speed through the water as opposed to speed over the ground, SOG. Does anyone know why water speed is "proper' or where proper came from?

    spotty decks

Have you tried to clean any stainless steel with a metal pot scourer? We did last summer and before long the decks were covered in rust spots. <hr width=100% size=1>

    Perspex washboards

Have you considered one draw back with Perspex washboards; they let in the light and at night this can be a problem in some areas. Tom Drummond Auckland

    GBR

The point is we are doing well winning the big ticket races. We are the best there is by far. The point is that this is not having much effect on on recreational sailing. Racing is now so competetive that the racer/cruiser of the past is now the racer/??? that you have to be an athlete to...

    Contessa 28

The Petter Mini Twin started life as an industrial engine and is prone to serious corrosion on the cyl heads in a marine environment. The engine is probably close to its demise.

What is a Saildrive and is it anygood?nm

A saildrive is like an outboard leg attached through the botom of the hull to the output shaft of the gear box. They are reliable if properly maintained, but are more complicated that a traditional shaft. In theory if the bellows that fits around the top of the leg fails the boat can sink. I...

    Nanni engines

Does the Nanni 3 cyl fresh water cooled engine have anodes? I can find on reference to one in the instruction manual.

    Anodes

I have recently bought a yacht that has a Nanni 3 cyl 21 HP motor. The motor has a heat exchanger. There is no reference to cathodic protection for the motor. Am I correct in thinking as it is fresh water cooled it has no anodes? There is no reference to them in the instruction book.
