I looked at all sorts of built in routers and fancy antennas but in the end I opted for a Huawei B818 4G router. It runs off 12v and has excellent reception. I stream Netflix and YouTube and often do MS Teams meetings for work with no issues. I have it connected to a 12v regulated supply and...
So I took the chance and ordered the two gears from Germany. The gauges were a bit tricky to disassemble but I took my time and worked it out. The needle was the hardest part. It wouldn’t pull off so I twisted it and that freed it up. I kept turning and applied a bit of a pull and it came away...
I’d say you would want to check your maths. A Beneteau Flyer 12 has 1200L diesel tanks. Based on the common figure of 1mpg (1 gallon = 4.5L) that we often hear for a 40ish footer, you’ll be burning 90L per hour at 20 knots. 20 knots for 400nm takes 20 hours. So you’re talking 1800L for that trip.
I helped a friend to do this exact job yesterday. He had a colour matched kit from the same company. His kid came with plastic film sheets to put over the wet gelcoat. I mixed the gelcoat and hardener. Then filled the scratche. As soon as I put the gelcoat on, it was trying to sag. So I applied...
Thanks for your replies.
Bran, that’s a very tidy job. I’m going to try to repair the mechanical hourmeters if possible.
I had previously been in touch with this company and this gear looks like it might be the one I need. There was nothing left of the old gear so I’ll open the second gauge...
Hi all,
My Broom has a pair of VDO Tachometers with analog hourmeters. They are not the digital LCD screens that regularly fail.
They hourmeters on both have stopped working. Someone mentioned that the plastic gears can sometimes fail.
Has anyone repaired one of these?
Any advice or links to...
Just wondering if anyone has used this scheme to export a boat out of the UK? Sailaway boats supplied for export outside the UK (VAT Notice 703/2)
Do certain brokers participate in this a hem and is it an option for exporting secondhand boats?
@ingenious You might be better off avoiding canals if you can and stick to rivers, larger waterways, lakes and the sea. Canals are tricky with twin screw boats and singlehanded. You’re far better off in open water with a decent autopilot if you are solo. I have regularly done long solo trips at...
@ingenious I have a Broom Ocean 38 and I regularly singlehanded it. I had a Crown before that and also a Continental. If you plan your mooring by getting ropes and fenders ready, you’ll be fine. You’ll definitely need a bowthruster and a remote control is also very handy.
Be careful with the...
