D1-30 cannot get above 2000rpm and its not the prop or fuel

I had the very same thing happen on my D2-40, and equally some of our school boats. Turns out on all occasions it was the clutch pack in the Saildrive that had gone. It took ages to work out. Even the local Volvo Penta engineer had no clue what it was. It was odd in that the engine would fully...

Meaco DD8L. What settings do you all use?

fan on speed 2 setting humidity on three water drops leave it running on automatic with the drain in the galley sink. The smell from new wasn’t bad, smelt more chemical than anything else and dissipated over a few weeks.

Anyone know of a good, reliable dehumidifier?

We use ElectriQ CD12P dehumidifiers in all our school boats. They do a great job and pretty much look after themselves. We paid about £130 each for them. Gave up using Meaco juniors after three went pop in one year and didn’t quite as good a job.

    Charter insurance for UK nationals?

Try Topsail, they might be able to help.

Are we all too keen to give our money to marinas during the pandemic?

Certainly not to their commercial customers! all I’ve had are endless demands for money.

Self Employed Marine Engineers and COVID 19. The First business casualties.

Top man, thanks Greg. I think we've got a few more jobs to be done, but we'll compile a list and get back to you. Thanks for sorting the bow-roller strap, not an issue at the moment. Aside fom the obvious, i hope all is well mate.

    Anyone at Port Solent ?

I've been at Port Solent on that private berth for years mate, as well as having been on the main marina berths so know all of Port Solent rather well. Oyster Quay fobs given to people who lease private berths only activate a small gate at the end of the walkway (next to Oyster Quay flats...

    Anyone at Port Solent ?

Pontoon P is in oyster Quay, they are private berths at the flats, not the main marina. There was fencing up yesterday, as I access the area from behind the cinema, not from the lock end.

    Anyone at Port Solent ?

I couldn’t gain access to the boardwalk and Pontoon P.

    Anyone at Port Solent ?

They’ve blocked-off access to the boardwalk, so gaining access to some pontoons isn't possible.

D2-40 500 hours service - injector pressure test

For turning the engine over in small increments, i used a 1/2" ratchet and socket on the crank pulley. My D2-40 is now 10 years old with 1000hours on it. I checked the valve clearances last summer and they were all well within tolerance. Didn't need to adjust any of them. Worth a check though...

    Port Solent Diesel

I'm berthed at Port Solent and usually fill a couple of jerry cans at the fuel station in Cosham near the train station, just down the road from Port Solent. It's a lot cheaper than marina rates. I err on the side of caution and heavily dose with Wasp Bio-Kem every time i fill-up. Not had any...
