    Guest Etiquette when Cruising

The only person I know who has had problems with their loo, is a friend with a Bavaria. It appears to be a case of bad design with an elbow in the discharge pipe work. He replaced his Jabsco with an electric macerator type of toilet which is so noisy, he is afraid to use it at night.

    Toast

I bought one from Amazon, which is nearly square, I didn't know they made round ones.

Anyone use these pushfit electrical connectors before, on tiny wires?

I've never seen those before, what I use is like a heat shrink sleeve filled with low melting point solder. Slip them over the wires and use a heat gun to solder the wires together, the sleeve shrinks down to seal the connection.

    Force 4 data breach

I got an email from Force 4 telling me that they had been hacked, to be honest I didn't think much of it, but this morning I got a call from my bank telling me that my credit card had been used in Kentucky while I was standing in the queue for the checkout in my local supermarket. So if you...

    Electrical Solder Jointing

I carry a box of various sizes on board, just in case, but I got them from Banggood in China. Much cheapness, but look to be identical. They work, just make sure the bared ends of the wires overlap in the middle where the solder is.

Would you go to sea in this lifeboat ?

http://habbeke.nl/project/fast-rescue-craft-frc903/ I came across a video on YouTube of a fast rescue craft made by a Dutch company DSMG -FRC-903, and they have posted a video of a righting test, they seemed happy with the result, but it left me wondering who in their right mind would put a...

    Drag Queen

I use the above for a secondary anchor watch, but I've just got a new phone and apparently my version of drag queen is not compatible with the latest iOS. I can't find Drag Queen in the App Store does anyone know what happened to it. Alternatively anyone want to suggest a different option ?

    What's it called ?

Many thanks for the offer, but it would mean enlarging the holes in my stem head. I'll see how I get on making one, it shouldn't be too difficult.

    What's it called ?

Thanks to everyone who has replied. Since I've been unable to locate the pin I need, I've decided to get a bit of stainless bar and have a go at making my own.

    What's it called ?

The pin that goes through the stem head to secure the anchor, and/or the chain ? Mine has gone splash and being stainless dragging with a magnet is pointless. It is 8mm in diameter, the part that goes through the stem head is about 130mm long, with a 50mm leg at right angles. It's not a drop...

High pressure on air floor of inflatable

My pump came with the new dinghy, so I assume it's original, like prv said the pump seems to have two chambers, a large one to inflate the hull, and a smaller one which takes the air deck to a higher pressure. It's simply a case of switching the hose from one discharge port to the other.

What is the range of hand-held (5W) vhf radio at sea level ?

I came across an empty dinghy adrift in the middle of Upper Loch Fyne last weekend. I tried calling the coastguard with the fixed set and the handheld, no response, so I called on the mobile, got through no problem. When I explained that I'd tried calling on the VHF I was told I was in a bad...

How do I take my binoculars apart?

I just got my vision back thanks to a cataract operation. So I'm on the boat this weekend and decide to refocus my binoculars to suit my new eyes, but I noticed that the vertical and horizontal markings are lying at an angle. Presumably the glasses have been dropped at some time. When I look...

    anchor tripping line

I just use a line line rigged in a loop through a shackle on the heel of the anchor. If I ever need to use it as a tripping line, I split the loop and tie one end to a length of rope and pull that through. I then use the rope to recover the anchor. I use an old light housing from a horseshoe...
