    Ore Buoys?

Does anyone know when the Ore buoys are due to go in? Normally they’re in for Easter. We’re due up there in a week or so.

    Dead whale

Dead porpoise in Orford harbour this summer. So sad to see and so incredibly pongy.

    Overpropped?

We were overpropped. Changing the prop for the correct size and pitch made little difference gently motorsailing but a huge difference to high raved motoring and slow speed manoeuvring, particularly in astern, much more predictable. In addition she's faster under sail. But then we were very over...

    Diesel Consumption through the roof

Despite antifouling and ten minutes of daily Scrubis we see fuel consumption ticking up all summer. One of the culprits is the prop where a very small level of crustacean fouling requires a significant increase in revs to achieve the same speed. I can’t remember, can someone remind me the...

    Is Snape Maltings doable nowadays?...

We went this year, lifting keel 1.1m draft and never a hint of touching. A great trip, really enjoyed it.

What's the entrance like to Walton Backwaters?

Thank you everyone. Planning a trip from Orford to Tollesbury next week and the forecast is good. Stone Point with its amazing sandy beach was always a hit with the children when they were little and they want to revisit. Walton on the naze is a lovely town.

What's the entrance like to Walton Backwaters?

We're planning a trip to Stone Point but wondered if you can get in at or near to low water, last time we visited it was dicey.

How to anchor in Butley Creek?

I’ve never thought of using a mooring, surely the depth of water is very low at LW? All the boats there are very shallow draft. As for sheltered it’s the calmest place on earth, no fetch at all in any conditions. Are we talking about the same place?

How to anchor in Butley Creek?

Thank you everyone. Glad to hear we’re not alone. Reading those replies I think we’re being too cautious. We’re very careful anchorers and gently pay out, having anchored hundreds of times and in some challenging places. But I can see how dropping the hook and measured scope in one go ensures...
