Single handing - what's your biggest?

Fairline Turbo 36 (current boat) in fairness the layout up top does make it very easy, but i tend not to point that out to others in the marina!

    Building our boat

K_D this is shaping up to be a fantastic thread, I wish you the best of luck. If you need any help with RCD compliance etc feel free to drop me a pm, or post on your thread, I will be keeping up to date with it. I know it can be a daunting prospect on a project like this and would be happy to...

    Is this for real

Deleted User, I suspect the reason is that it would be a nightmare for RCD compliance. Every new boat, and most conversions placed on the market in the EU need to adhere to some stringent stability criteria. Without knowing the details I would guess the above might struggle with all that top hamper.

    Charing System

thank you for all the poasts so far, some interesting thoughts. I have to admit I had wondered if we needed a dedicated starter for each battery, but so far I cant find a spec as to what the starter motor will need to crank the engine or what the preheat uses so I cant do a power audit, my...

    Charing System

Bit of a melon scratcher, and I think the forum might be able to provide some interesting thoughts..... We have a Fairline Turbo 36 with TAMD61a's. Its a great boat but the electrical system is driving me up the wall. We have 4 110ah 12v batteries installed, in 2 banks of 2 connected by metal...

RNLI Flare Amnesty & Lifeboat Clinic

Hello All, Apologies if this seems like a blatant plug but.... We at Penton Hook Yacht Club are holding our annual Regatta on Sunday 1st July, cheap beers, hot dogs, burgers and all of the usual fun. We also have the RNLI running a lifejacket clinic, giving advice on the upkeep and service of...

    Turbo 36 with 165HP

we have a turbo 36 on the Thames (based at Penton Hook) with the 306s and believe that snippets of what everyone has said are true. ours is a 89 boat and the 306s push us along at 28ish flat out (heavy loading) but we barely get out of tickover when at river speeds. I think there is a place for...

where do mobos go to die?

'But the more general answer is "Up the river, where they go green".' Off the back of this a couple of years back i was approached by a Thames boat yard to work as a consultant surveyor for an EA project. Effectively they wanted to gather up any old decaying boats that hadnt been licenced for a...

    Mercruiser outdrive service recomendations

might be worth giving Matt Coyne a call (Solo Marine) He is based at Stanley & Thomas down by Romney Lock. To clarify i have been a customer, but would add that i have worked from the same yard but for a different company (me as a wooden boatbuilder, him as an independant marine engineer) are...

thank you to everyone that has come back on this, some very interesting replies. I had sort of earmarked bolougne and maybe gravelines but some of the less well known marinas will have to be investigated! any comments on gravelines would be great. Ref the cruising speed i have wondered this...
