A long time ago I used to sail quite a bit but since the kiddywinks arrived I've been a fairly dedicated motorboater (please don't start now, that's not the point of this post)
My kids are now aged 11, 9 and 7, I have a week off arranged shortly and our boat is currently laid up. What I'd like...
Thanks for the thoughts so far.
Was having a conversation with someone today who looked in an old engine manual they had which suggested that it is the action of the valve spring that makes them rotate, which seems plausible.
I'm still none the wiser though as to why many of mine have not been...
Currently doing a top end overhaul on my two diesels primarily to solve a coolant overflow problem I have always had with the starboard engine (1997 Mercruiser 250hp 4.2 litre D-Tronic diesel, done approximately 1200 hours)
As I understand it the rockers are deliberately made to be slightly...
Re: Raising stern drive when it doesn\'t work
If the trim up and trailer up switches don't operate the drive motor it could be the respective solenoid has failed (happened on one of mine)
You can bypass the solenoid and, in effect, the limit switches by shorting the power straight to the motor...
Despite the fact that mine are currently in pieces I don't rate Volvo's as any more reliable
IMHO it depends completely on how well they have been looked after and for what it's worth mine are in pieces cos I'm a fussy git and wanted to fix a long standing coolant overflow problem which it...
There are two types of Mercruiser 4.2 - 220hp and 250hp
The 220hp version was generally matched to Bravo 2 drives and the 250hp to Bravo 3's
I have the later and when working well expect 35 knots (when they're in pieces however you can expect precisely nil knots, thought I'd better add that...
Re: Fuel berth
Thought you did a fine job of the lock on Sunday Dave, that's a lovely new boat you've got there (can't find a green smiley !)
You'd have been fine on that side of the lock if the Sunsail boat in front of you had used the four or five feet of space they had in front of them, why...
I have the same problem but with a completely different type of engine so not sure this will be relevant, but anyhow I suspect something electrical
When mine was doing it I went down the hole and just tried moving connections and wires etc. Eventually discovered that pressing the multi pin...
I think you're missing the fact that the TAMD75 would have been on shafts
The D6's are on outdrives and are probably quite a bit lighter
Both of these factors more than make up for the lower power output

I had my stainless propellors refurbed last year cos I could see some small cracks in a couple of places, probably caused over time by hitting small stuff. The chap told me that one blade was close to shearing off due to a crack that I hadn't even been able to see !
So I guess it can happen...
I think adarcy has answered your question but I would say that you shouldn't bring the tabs all the way up because that will actually pull the stern down, ideally they should be left half way such that the water flows off the hull and then continues straight along the tab.
