Hi It is possible that your gearbox heat exchanger (oil to sea water) is leaking... Just had my heat exchanger replaced. If you can find the correct parts (ie. the exchanger) then you should be able to do it yourself. This would not cause the black smoke though... cheers Charles

Hi Peter You have a point - thanks. I was thinking that the bulk of the time in doing a rewiring would be running the cables... I don't think I would do the job this year, but maybe next year. All the answers have given me pointers of what to consider etc. Cheers Charles
