    River Thames Conditions

River conditions are defined by the number of weir gates open on each stretch of river. Every set of weirs on the Thames is individual and has a different number of individual weir gates. As the river level goes up some weir gates are opened to maintain the river level, once a certain number of...

    Remote Monitoring - Again.........

QuSpot or QuWireless can supply a 5g antenna for your router, as the router is inside the antenna housing the signal loss is minimal. I use one with a RUT 360 in the UK, seems ok to me. Only thing I needed to do was dismantle the unit and use silicon to stop the antenna vibrating and creating a...

    River flow at different depths.

Weirs and fixed structures give better accuracy than measuring over a natural river bed. From memory weir structures for measuring flow rates were different shapes under water, broad, crump, flume in design, cannot remember the difference, was a long time ago! Could bring up some interesting...

    River flow at different depths.

You are correct, surface water normally flows faster than water at depth. This is known as the velocity profile and is valid for laminar flow. River flow rates over natural river beds are calculated by measuring flow rates at various depths and relating it to river depth and velocity profile. I...

    Electric fuel pump

I would check with Beta to see what they advise. I know some diesel injection pumps can be fussy regarding input pressure.

    Clamp Meters

Another vote for the Uni-T, great bit of kit for the price. Tested mine against a calibrated meter and it was ok.

    VDO water level meter problems.

Try disconnecting one or both of the electrodes from the pcb if possible, then power up the gauge. If the reading is still full scale then the issue is in the pcb. If the gauge drops to zero the issue is some sort of contamination causing a semi short between the two electrodes, may be possible...

What kind of fender valves is this?

remove the bung with a screwdriver, dont need a special adapter I just used an air blower directly on the fender. You do need to hold it against the fender with a fair amount of force to overcome the initial pressure to open the valve.

    Egham moorings

Had a meal at the Italian Concept last week, plenty of mooring space and great food at the restaurant. Does get busy at the moorings some Saturday afternoons later on in the day so try to arrive early if possible.

    6mm stainless washers

If you purchased proper stainless plate washers as opposed to penny washers the price you paid is not too expensive. I purchased similar last year when fitting davits.

Red Boards Forecast and Goring to Eynsham

I have discussed how the red/yellow states are decided with some of the lockies. Chris_d and Outinthedinghy correctly replied, yellow and red boards are decided on the amount of tackle drawn, that is the number of weir gates opened. Each weir has a threshold that when a certain number of gates...

    Engine Oil Change

Finnings are very good, no need to go outside the UK. If you are sampling oil follow the instructions in the kit, each time you sample it is important that you sample when the engine is at operating temperature. The best part of oil analysis is the historical trends that you get sampling each...

    Painting engines

Vactan is a really good rust converter, available from eBay or Amazon, only use it on rusty surfaces. I used used acrylic enamel paint when painting engines in the past, very hard wearing.

Now Calor have confirmed that they are discontinuing the smaller gas bottles we will have no choice but to change supplier. Your questions about our Cylinder range simplification, answered. The issue with the Flogas 3.9 bottles is that there are 2 different heights available, 340 and 370mm...
