    Irish online chandleries

I've used all 3 of the ones mentioned above and good service from them all. I tend to use Marine Parts Direct the most as they're convenient to pick up from in store for me. Boson Bob's worth a mention too: Chandlery supplies | Boat Chandlery Generally order my antifouling there and no issues...

Caribbean charter ( probably Antigua), January 2023, any recommended companies to consider?

Good idea, I'll look at getting a guide book or two to peruse over the next 2 months. Any particular one? Perhaps : The Cruising Guide to the Southern Leeward Islands: Antigua to Dominica: Amazon.co.uk: Doyle, Chris, Fisher, Lexi: 9781733305310: Books Bob.

Caribbean charter ( probably Antigua), January 2023, any recommended companies to consider?

Thanks all, for logistical reasons we have booked a Sunsail charter in Antigua. Hopefully make the BVI's work the next time. Thanks for the above tips, we're not averse to a few long passages if the weather cooperates for Barbuda, otherwise we'll perhaps attempt a lap of Antigua . Bob.

Caribbean charter ( probably Antigua), January 2023, any recommended companies to consider?

Hello all, title says it all really. In the final stages of committing to a 1 week charter in January 2023. Leaning heavily towards Antigua due ease of access from our location. Has anyone any good or, even better, bad(!) experiences in the last few years with any of the charter companies that...

    MD2040 Starting trouble

I wonder are the glow plugs not in great condition? Do you have the same symptoms starting the engine when it's warmed up? My glow plugs were 'working ' but badly coked up and my md2020 was very slow to start up when cold. Initially I took the 2 out I could access easily and cleaned em up a...

Raymarine ST60 wind speed not working

Short answer is no, I didn't manage to fix the existing unit. With the summer cruise fast approaching last year I ordered the newer model replacement transducer arm: Raymarine Short Arm Wind Transducer - Vane Only - R28170 It was a straight swap. The older unit is still in the shed awaiting...

Good (and easy!) Coffee at Anchor

Another vote for the AeroPress here. Was gifted one for the boat, it found its way home and is in daily use. They're reasonably priced (I reckon) , and my coffee shop owner neighbour who knows his onions about these things was full of praise for them. Then its a matter of finding the right...

    Saildrive Dipstick head sheared off!

Thanks all, sorry limited internet connection here to reply. I'll go with the drill and epoxy a screw solution I think when I get back to home base. I'm hoping as the threads are still in that the dipstick wont go further in but may reattach the head with 2 pack epoxy glue to secure it in the...

    Saildrive Dipstick head sheared off!

Title says it all really ? I've managed to shear off the head on my Volvo 120s saildrive dipstick, mid summer cruise of course. Hopefully attached pictures paint a thousand words! Any suggestions as to how to remove the remaining part if I can get a replacement. Perhaps gluing the head back on...

Raymarine ST60 wind speed not working

It looks like second hand st60 masthead units are not easy to come by! With the summer cruise fast approaching I am considering replacing with a newer version if the masthead unit. This : Raymarine Short Arm Wind Masthead Transducer R28170 Has anyone done this and is it a straight swap? Can I...

Raymarine ST60 wind speed not working

Just in follow up to this, I have tested the voltages at the junction box and yellow to shield is showing 7.88V, almost identical to Red to shield at 7.84V. This seems well above the expected range and is a constant reading. I must have done some damage to the unit upon removal or the...

Raymarine ST60 wind speed not working

I did. But a fair question! I was afraid of overtightening the first time I installed the new caps. I tightened it up more today up the mast, I found though if I over tightened it it stopped the cups from spinning freely. Bob

Raymarine ST60 wind speed not working

Thanks for the link and detailed breakdown of the unit. I'll test the connections tomorrow at deck level. Failing that I think I'll remove the unit and try some more detailed investigation. The price of a replacement masthead unit is almost half the cost of a whole new system!! Bob

Raymarine ST60 wind speed not working

Yes, cups are spinning freely. Whether they are gripping the 'axle ' underneath may be another story! When up the mast today I spun the spindle with the cups removed and there was no speed registering on the the instrument.
