Thanks Vic....
So if I melt down old anodes which are readily available in the scran bins and skim the slag off the top I should have about the correct Zinc composition...then maybe i can experiment with a sort of layered pencil anode to see if there is a discernable difference??
What do you...
I'm told that I should have aluminium anodes on my boat at Christchurch.
So far I've not used one. (10 years plus)
Unfortunately the boat spends most of her time moored up in the "brackish" waters.
I have the usual Bukh type zinc pencil anode in in the diesel, it sacrifices, and is replaced...
Thanks Viv,
That certainly has possibilities...
Following on..
I could even turn off the lower flange of crown plate and replace it with a plastic ring turned to the right dimensions. ( the stripper ring would still be located by the skt hd capscrews
Also just realised that I need to drill...
Just servicing my old genoa winches ...note a fair bit of corrosion on lower face of the anodised alloy "Upper crown Plate" (part 15042603) where it is fastened by 3 stainless cap screws to the bronze drum (1542402)...
The plate is now I fear obsolete as a spare part.
It's not terminal and...
Allegretto's up for it Probably total of three on board...
Plan to sail either overnight on Thurs 11/Fri 12 or daytime Friday 12th
Returning at an ungodly hour on Sunday am to catch enough tide for Christchurch that evening!
Looking forward to it

AIS Transponers etc CLASS B
Read the thread so far interesting....
I have an out of date Raymarine Radar with MARPA which allows me to plot upto 10 targets and tells me their CPA's etc.
I also have an out of date Std Horizon Chart plotter and a Nasa AIS box which shows up the class A...
On a KISS basis I have
1013 mb= 0
1003 =+0.1m
1023 =-0.1m
so one tenth of a meter change for 10 hectopascals
which is 3.937 inches (say four)
and sailing from Christchurch its pretty important !!!!

In a moment of weakness (won on the GGs) I invested in a Raymarine Smart Controller. (the wireless type)
It works fine and will steer the old girl from the bow.
But I'm a bit wary of leaving it plugged in on permanent charge (Cigar lighter socket).
If I've not been on the boat for a time, say...
Yep is was like that for us too. Mind you we couldn;t see much during the night...
Bitty different coming back, thankfully.
A great weekend tho'
