    Bashing Marinas

I would have thought that a company that is advertised in their yearbook would be an "approved" contractor and had submitted copies of third party liability insurance. End of story. The mast and rigging service company concerned says that this marina is the only one on the Clyde that makes this...

    Bashing Marinas

On the topic of unfair charges; I requested a quote from a contractor to change a sheave box on my mast and was told that the marina charges him £25 to work on site! This cost to be passed on to the client.. plus VAT! More than the price of the sheave block! The contractor even advertises in...

AIS receiver - can i use a vhf aerial splitter?

For the price of a splitter you can buy a dedicated AIS receiver with aerial. A bit of "best practice" is where the AIS receiver and the GMDSS receiver are protected from the GMDSS transmitter by diode switching within the unit. Standard Horizon and Garmin amongst others have this option. By...

    Raymarine C80 - Radar Solutions

I bought a new RD218 for my C80 at the beginning of the season. It had to be ordered directly from Raymarine by a dealer. The analogue radomes have disappeared off the raymarine website but you might be lucky with a direct enquiry. There are a few second hand radomes about as people upgrade...

    more AIS

Experience in the Clyde would easily give ranges of 10 - 20 miles for commercial shipping. There is a formula for line of sight, but power levels are generally quite low on the non-commercial transmitters so range might well be a little less for transponders used by yotties Hope that helps Bob

Where have the Beneteau manuals gone?

Thanks. The website was an official Beneteau one.. USA I think. now have to log in with customer number etc... Manuals show cable routes, running rigging layout and so have some use. PS its not a 40CC but a two year old Oceanis 40. Regards Bob
