Thanks alot for the advise....nah she is only for cruising and very minor small fishing...the fishing part are only render gimmics.Yes the designer is very experienced and thats the reason vee drives were chosen to shift all weight aft as much as he could despite the 20ft long...

Thanks Deleted User,my research on the web shows alot of exaggerated comments labelled against the vee drives due to the lack of accesibility to the stuffing box etc...I guess if the designer/builder puts it correct,nothing should go wrong.

A stupid question from the novice-its been some very tense moments with this design re all systems.The cockpit is 20ft(L) x 16ft(W) but because of the height of the engines & displacement nature of the hulls ,vee drives were chosen.Are there any special arrangements re the location of the shaft...
Are there any downsides to the vee types than the straight transmissions? Life expectancy etc? Our design has been specified with vee drives which is almost a norm with catamarans

Yes,that 230hp QSB was my first choice replacement BUT weight was a damn big factor for the displacement hulls to go to the 4 cylinder JD's (462kg compared to 612kg for QSB).
Dear All,
Got news from Cummins NZ that mechanical recreational engines will cease from December 2009.Had to go full displacement hulls with the new catamaran design & specified twin 4 cylinder John Deere's (135hp).Build will be at a later stage.
