    Anchor lights

A Cruise ship has a billion lights but they will still have Nav lights on. Light your boat however you want but you must have a dedicated all round white light for anchoring.

What was your first boat you saw , that would be a dream to own and what year you saw.

I always liked the look of the Seamaster 30. I remember seeing them on the river when there were still a lot of wooden boats about. I had a wooden Dolphin 20 that was a bit rotten. i used to wish i could get something fiberglass. Now i sit in a fiberglass boat and look at the few wooden boats...

    Fishing on Stangate or Sharfleet

The best thing for catching in Stangate is a crab net like you'd see down the beach....

Old(ish) petrol - use or not - also how does fuel ages?

There are a few things here suggesting that old petrol wont ignite very well. The opposite is true. Petrol has stabilisers in that cause it to ignite at a controlled rate. This is why a spark is timed at before top dead centre. When the spark occurs the piston is still going up. it reached top...

    Havengore

This is us going through there last year. The tide was high but it was still scary shallow. I didn't know before the trip but you need to prefer the North side of the channel at the entrance for the deep(er) water. You should look on Google Earth to see. We bumped the bottom a number of times...

    Lowrance VHF problem

Hi, I bought a secondhand Lowrance LVR-880. The Unit was cleared and it has no MMSI number in. I've not entered my number yet as i was not 100% sure i was going with this radio and wanted to preserve the resale vale. The unit is currently flashing an envelope symbol which the manual says is...

    Vat-paid status

I would have thought it would become less of an issue. If an EU authority wants to know the VAT status of a British vessel they should be told to poke it... we would just be any visiting non-EU boat and the tax we have paid in our country has nothing to do with them unless we are trying to...

CE Marking after the business at the border

I have seen plenty of chat about VAT post Brexit but not much in the way of CE marking... If I import a boat from the U.S on 05th January and pay the new UK VAT, what happens to the need to have the boat CE marked as that is a European requirement for goods imported to the EU and not the UK?

    Nav Equipment

The answer is that it could be either depending on what plotter it is. It does not matter what age they are.

Buying a UK boat with (knowingly) no VAT paid

OP i think you are trying to engineer this situation to how you want to see it. I will give you 2 examples of when VAT is due in similar circumstances to your issue that show VAT is a bitch.. 1, You go to B&Q and buy £100,000 worth of materials. you take it home and in your back garden you...

    12v Fridge not cooling

I had this. I learned on another forum about the fridge requiring high ampage in order to work. It was said that low ampage would make it appear to work as in the humming and light on. It said to check the connections for corrosion. When i inspected my set up i found that there was tarnish over...

Diesel heater - heated air intake location

I would draw it in from the cabin. If there is an issue with damp you need to let it out with an open vent. If you draw air in from the cockpit this will also be cool damp air. I can't imaging that you would only be running your heater on a hot sunny afternoon! Cabin air will make your heater...

    Out of cert liferaft usefulness

Well...... I would keep it unless it ran out on the 80's I have seen a good few people 'testing' their life raft that they are about to dump and it all worked perfectly, However the food, water and batteries were a bit manky. If i were in your position i would service it as gold standard but...
