I want to update the Navionics chip in our chart plotter but don't want to erase our previous tracks. Am I correct to think the tracks are in the plotter memory rather than on the chart chip?

With respect Mr Lusty, it is not "a wholly different subject". As the OP, my question was basically does wax get thicker if you add more coats. I know of nobody that sprays wax onto boats so that aspect is irrelevant.
As I have said earlier I use 3M liquid wax and therefore use their...
Many thanks for the replies, despite being contradictory, they are all useful. Under all circumstances I feel a second coat is a good idea as the chances of missing the same bit twice are quite remote. Until 3M stopped making it, I used to prefer hard wax.
Given Concerto's reply, I think I'll...
After polishing our dark blue hull, I normally give it a few coats of wax. I use 3M liquid wax. I would be interested to hear if anyone has any knowledge about what improvement I would get from adding more coats?

I'm an enormous fan of the Bristol channel, so biased, mostly towards Cardiff. If I were to buy a Nelson or something similar, I would think Gloucester docks or somewhere nearby would seem perfect. Up the Severn to Tewkesbury and beyond. The Avon to Stratford is probably possible. In the other...
There's a lot of good advice here, which I agree with. I used to sail from Cardiff to Newlyn once or twice a year. At first I tried to plan every stage then realised that if you kept to a few simple thoughts every trip is the same. Going west, starting early on the tide to make sure you get as...
I refurbished our utility room using beech faced ply as a worktop. I painted it with Ronseal diamond floor paint. It still looks like new after a year.

I've never had an electric winch and I'm happy to stay like that for now. I sail a 36ft Starlight with a slightly oversized Delta anchor. Two bits of advice, both require carefully using the windlass to take up as much slack as possible. 1. Mostly for use in thick gloopy mud. Once the chain is...
We've done it a couple of times and the forecasting was spot on. Our reason was the difficulty of finding a berth in the Canaries. We left the boat in the Algarve from September/October and the went to Canaries and on to the Caribbean.
