    3 x 105ah domestic, 1 x 95ah Engine. Sealed Lead acid. Do I really need 10-20% of battery capacity or is a 20a Victron charger enough ?

Just to close this out... I picked up a Victron 30a bluesmart charger in anticipation of it being a direct replacement. When I got back to the boat.... The batteries were at 12.6v (after resting for the week) so we hadn't depleted them too much after our fortnight aboard with just engine...

Thank you so much @PaulRainbow - I've noticed your input on other similar batteries & wiring threads in the past , and I'm grateful to you for patiently sharing your expertise here. I do understand the very basics of DC wiring, but my use of it is infrequent enough that I don't recognise cable...

Ah, OK !!! - I think this is what I was missing. I assumed (without thinking it through) I would need to upgrade the AC cabling in the boat to the charger (the "input cable"). My rationale was that if I doubled the charger AMP rating (eg. from 20a to 40a) , I would need to double the size of...

Yep, understand the bit about AGM's not needing a different charger - I just noted that AGMS (If I change to them) will accept charge faster , and could perhaps benefit from a larger charger during a few hours at the dock. Yes, I noticed that - even higher the incremental cost is relatively...

Thanks you very much folks. You are both suggesting 30a (although Tranona reckons 20a will do if need be based on my current usage). At the moment I am still inclined to go with 20a, just for ease of replacement (ie. I don't have to replace wiring with a higher gauge). I read that with the...

    3 x 105ah domestic, 1 x 95ah Engine. Sealed Lead acid. Do I really need 10-20% of battery capacity or is a 20a Victron charger enough ?

A question of charging, do I really need the "recommended" 10% of battery capacity ? Is a new 20ah charger enough to replace the old 20a charger for a 315ah domestic battery bank overnight , assuming not discharged below 50% ? The batteries in both banks (Numax XDC31MF domestic 105ah x 3 ...

Vesper XB-8000 stopped broadcasting it's local WIFI and AIS Output over NMEA 0183 , any thoughts ?

I just realised I never updated this thread. Vesper support were very helpful - they gave me instructions to flash the unit (the procedure needed three hands, and involved shorting wires, and some Laptop instructions to apply updates within 30 seconds!). It apparently triggers the unit to use...

Yanmar 3JH5E - I've changed the oil, but forgot to change the oil filter ! (now what ?)

I agree, but I think I will do it anyway just in case . Hmm, this might turn out to be the best way to do it after all ! Haha. He can stay later after work with the yanmar engineer that specified the alternator arm & belt on this engine (it takes a gorilla with three arms to replace it). He's...

Yanmar 3JH5E - I've changed the oil, but forgot to change the oil filter ! (now what ?)

Thanks @VicS Yes, I've changed it several times before on this engine... I was just doing a couple of things and just slipped my mind ! I wasn't sure how much oil I would lose, but it sounds like it won't be excessive. Ill try it & catch as much excess as I can in a plastic bag.

Yanmar 3JH5E - I've changed the oil, but forgot to change the oil filter ! (now what ?)

I don't know what I was thinking , but I warmed the engine, removed the oil and replaced it but forgot to change the filter in the middle ! ? I've left it settle over night (ie. not yet run it with the new oil in it), and I'm wondering if I can just remove the filter now and change it before...

bedding seal for simple screw on frameless acrylic windows

I used MarineSeal 033 in 2007 on all my windows, and the windows never leaked between then and when I sold the boat over 10 years later. Buy Marineseal 033 Online - Premium Sealants & Primers by Marine Mastics It is a soft, two-part non-adhesive , non-setting putty, and didn't squeeze out over...

Vesper XB-8000 stopped broadcasting it's local WIFI and AIS Output over NMEA 0183 , any thoughts ?

Just an update. I went through a number of basic checks (checking lights, software settings, restart etc.) with excellent support from Vesper. Mostly stuff I had tried already, and All unsuccessful so far though, it does seem (as suspected) to be a hardware issue of some sort with the WIFI...

Vesper XB-8000 stopped broadcasting it's local WIFI and AIS Output over NMEA 0183 , any thoughts ?

Thanks folks. Yes, there is power OK to the unit (it is transmitting OK, and receiving GPS signal). I've opened a ticket with Vesper OK on Friday, but not heard anything yet , obviously closed for the weekend. Was just hoping there was a gotcha, I could fix easily, but I think I will have to...

Vesper XB-8000 stopped broadcasting it's local WIFI and AIS Output over NMEA 0183 , any thoughts ?

Has anyone here with an XB-8000 had the AIS output over NMEA/WIFI stop working .... would like to hear any advice if you learnt anything from it. My XB-8000 AIS Trasceiver used to transmit a local WIFI network which could be picked up on Mobile devices to show an AIS radar style display in the...
