1. River Thames - Sea Reach - Dredging -
On or around April 28th, 2024, the Backhoe Dredger - NP562 and either the Hopper Barge CONNECTICUT (Navin 77) or COLORADO (Navin 78) will begin mechanical dredging at London Gateway
Port Berth 4 and the western end of Berth 3 in Sea Reach. These dredging activities are expected to occur over two tidal cycles. After the mechanical dredging, the vessel MEUSE RIVER will start trailer suction dredging at London Gateway Port Berth 4 in Sea Reach on or around May 15th, 2024. The dredged material will be discharged using a floating pipeline to the west of Berth No. 4. Dredging operations will be conducted 24/7, with an anticipated completion date around May 22nd, 2024. During these dredging operations, a minimum clearance of 75 metres from vessels berthing or departing at No. 3 berth will be maintained. The dredging vessels will display lights and signals in accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 68.
2. River Thames - update - second ordnance - Unexploded Ordnance - has been discovered in the following positions: UXO Target 240423-1 51? 28’.71 N 000? 44’.63 E: UXO Target 240423-2 51? 28’.73 N 000? 44’.63 E In the interests of safety, vessels are advised to keep at least 100m clear of the above positions at all times. Vessels are particularly cautioned against anchoring, trawling or otherwise interacting with the seabed in the vicinity of the above position. The chartlet shows the general area, with the recommended 100m safety radius around the UXOs indicated by the red circle.
3. River Thames - Dredging - Sea Reach- on or about 02nd May 2024, contractors instructed by Oikos Storage Ltd. will commence dredging operations for Oikos No. 1 Jetty. The general location of the works is indicated by the
red box on the charlet. These dredging operations will be carried out vessel “MAAS” using Water Injection Dredging method and will be conducted during ebb tides only. The area to be dredged comprises the Oikos No. 1 Jetty berth box
as well as the rear, clearance channel and the approach / transit area to the berth. The dredging is expected to be complete by Friday 17th May. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedures set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee. The display of these signals will be in addition to any lights or shapes required under local regulations and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. Further details will be broadcast as appropriate by London VTS on VHF channel 68 & 69.
4. River Thames - West Thurrock Power Cable - North Pylon Unlit - the lights on the north pylon of the West Thurrock power cable are extinguished. The relevant authorities have been informed of these unlit lights and they advise that it may take up to 6 months to rectify this fault. The chartlet shows the general area, with the unlit north pylon indicated by the red circle. (You would have thought a power company could restore power within 6 months!)
5. Harwich Haven - Survey Operations – MV Titan Endeavour - the survey vessel MV Titan Endeavour (Callsign: 2ELT9) will be undertaking survey operations in Harwich Deep Water Channel between the Beach End and South Threshold from 29 April 2024 for around 2-3 weeks. For further information contact Harwich VTS on VHF channel 71.
6. Surveyed Depths – Harwich Harbour – Update 1 - recent surveys have identified reduced depths in Harwich Harbour. The minimum depth is now 15.6m below Chart Datum in the harbour area between the Grisle Buoy and the Babergh Buoy. See survey chart extracts for further information (I have put a download link in the Local list in the Usual webpage (but see comments below). Maintenance dredging works are currently underway to restore the navigable depth and a further notice will be issued once this work has been completed.
7. The Swale – Queenborough Harbour - Submerged Vessel / Obstruction - work to recover a sunken vessel in Queenborough Harbour has been completed, however, the vessel has been towed to a location where it will be broken up and removed. The wreck now lies in the following approximate position which is in shore of and adjacent to Queenborough All Tide Landing 51° 25. 025N – 000° 44. 261 E - Admiralty Chart 2572 Refers The remnants of the boat are submerged just below the surface at high water but are marked with a number of pellet buoys and surrounded by spill booms which will collect any debris coming from the wreck. All vessels are requested to keep clear of the obstruction until it has been fully removed. 8. River Medway - Saltpan Reach - Isle of Grain No.6 Jetty - Dredging Operations - are due to take place at Isle of Grain Jetty No.6, dredging will commence on or around 09/05/2024 and is expected to be completed by 31/05/2024. Operations will be focussed around the berthing box of the jetty and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Maas’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. IOG No.6 Jetty is centred on the following approximate position – 51° 25.94 N – 000° 41.65 E ‘Maas’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution, minimise their wash and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times.

9. Surveying- River Orwell - from: - Tuesday 30th April to Thursday 2nd May 2024 the vessel “Catherine H” will be conducting hydrographic surveying operations in the river Orwell and Ipswich berths. Mariners are advised to pass this vessel slowly and cautiously. A listening watch on VHF Channel 68 will be maintained at all times. Please contact ONS (Orwell Navigation Services) for more up to date information as to current areas of operation if required.
10. London Array Offshore Wind Farm - Jack Up Operations (Ziton Wind) - the Jack-up Vessel “Wind” provided by Ziton, will be on site from 03/05/2024 until 31/05/2024 to carrying out Heavy lift Component exchanges at various locations throughout the windfarm. Jack-Up Vessel Ziton Wind has a length of 55m, breadth of 18m with a draft of 4.8m. Equipment will be periodically deployed and suspended from the vessel crane during jack up operations. A 500m radius restricted zone will be in place, centred on the Ziton Wind whilst pinned on location. If access is required to this zone for non-project vessel traffic, authorisation must be requested from the vessel master. The vessel will be supported by CTV’s Windcat 27, 29, 21, 36, 39 and Spectrum2 as required during its time on site at London Array.
