The 'fast' version of West System needs about 5hrs to reach a solid cure.
I'm looking for something that has similar properties (including being runny enough to soak in to wood) but has, ideally, a <1hr cure time.
Any suggestions?

No such thing. Several reasons:
  • If it cured faster, it would exotherm and get hot if more than a few grams were mixed. It's called 5-minute epoxy. West makes it. Good for tacking things.
  • It's not going to soak into wood if it cures faster. Remember, West Fast starts to cross link and stops flowing in about 10 minutes. If you want it to penetrate, you use Slow or Extra Slow. 5-minute epoxy stops soaking in 1-2 minutes.
  • Penetrating epoxies are thin, but they are also even slower (about 24-48 hours) and are about 5 times weaker. This is why West does not make them.
