I'm doing a bit of research for my upcoming restoration project and one of the jobs on the list is painting the topsides and a possible epoxy coat to the hull (I had another thread about this a few days ago).

I've painted two other boats over the last 10 years and always wanted to go for a two pack system (such as international perfection) but found the cost prohibitive (i.e £37 for 750ml tins, and needing somewhere in the region of 5-6 litres).

who are the distributors of Jotun Marine paint.

They have a HUGE range of colours and do 5 litres of 2 pack polyurethane paint in the standard colour range for £41.95 (+vat) 2 pack epoxy primer (5 litres) for £39.95 and and do a 5 litre antifoul for £57.50 (all +vat).

Now, I do appreciate you normally get what you pay for, but this looks incredible value. the spec sheets look very promising, does anyone have any experience using these products?

I reckon I could completely refinish my 25ft yacht with a complete coat of epoxy, two pack paint and antifoul for around £200, as opposed to around £800 using blakes or internationals systems?
 
Jotun are well known in the commercial shipping world as a quality product.

(no connection with them etc..)
 
The bosun at my yard recommended it to me.

I have just applied the first coat of the 3-season product and will apply a second coat tomorrow. It went on beautifully. Intending to apply a third coat before launch.

Ask me in two years time how it performed...
 
I'm currently in the process of a restoration project and decided to go with Jotun paint. I used their epoxy undercoat on the hull as my boat is quite old and I was a little worried about osmosis settling in, I used a 5L tin and just scraped 4 coats (recommended) on a 21ft hull so you might want a little more than that for yours.
I also had some 2 pack topcoat XP and clear coat (for woodwork) and found great results with both of those!
They are very helpfull and will advise you on what you need if you give them a ring which really helped me out and as you say the price is very reasonable so you certainly get your monies worth!

Well I thought it looked good on paper and good to see it worked well for you. So why does no one apparently know about these products, and more to the point, why are the more popular products nearly 4 times as expensive?!
 
Have used Jotun a/f from Shepherd Marine for the last 4 seasons - excellent value paint with good results (on the Deben). Can't speak for the other products personally but reputation amonst professionals is good.
 
i've used jotun seaforce 30 a/f 57 squids 5 litres. works a treat, been in seawater for 2 years and just got slime which brushes of easily.

will be using it this year even though its twice the price over here...

Because peeps will pay that for it! I used Inter af the first year on my boat in Pwllheli, it started fouling pretty quickly, I phoned Inter up and complained, they said thanks for the info, I said hey, IMHO, its not good enough, I want a refund, they said, if more peeps complain then we will see what we can do, I didnt hear from them again!
After that I have used Screwfix, Flag etc (the cheapest I could get) got better results! No prizes for guessing which one I will never use again!

I have used Jotun AF on my fishing vessel for a few years now. Its the only brand the local fishing coop stock. Ensure you get the good grade stuff, the best I have used is Seaforce 48, supposed to last 48 months but easily handled 2 years. You get what you pay for though. Their cheaper stuff lasted 3 months!
 
I also use Jotun Anti-fouling on my boat on the Deben, Sea Guardian from memory, about £80 for 5l. Don't bother with the cheaper stuff, it's terrible putting it on and the sea guardian is far superior.
 
I've just done a 29ft Bene with Jotun Penguard HB epoxy, Vinyguard interlayer, SeaGuardian a/f and 2 pack polyurethane. The epoxy held brush marks badly but was fine iwth roller (NB it dissolves foam ones use fluffy ones). Mind you that was close to freezing using their low temp additive - probably better when warmer. It's pretty tough when cured.
The Vinyguard rolls on beautifully, so does the SeaGuardian, and hides the brush marks well. The SeaGuardian is a hell of a weight, must have loads of copper in. Now it's in water it looks very copery too.
The polyuretane is really tough - lasted 2 weeks on my fingernails!
The guy at Shepherds is very helpful.
At the mo I'm impressed but can't really tell for a year or two.

I expect you are looking at products designed for commercial vessel use, especially 2 pack polyurethane. International and Blakes products will be optimized for DIY application on small boats. Also the finish will be better from the DIY products. Gloss will be better and colours cleaner because they use more expensive pigments. Only you can decide if that is important for your project!

I think the ebay prices include VAT and the price list on the site is ex VAT. Their service and delivery is excellent. My first year using it but looking into the water I see only slime - no weed growth with Seaguardian so good news so far. I agree with other posts that suggest it is really a commercial product designed for boats that are only dry docked every 3 years - suits me
 
I used Sea guardian AF some years ago and it was good stuff, glad to see its available again.
Regarding Two pack polyurethane i have used International 709 and it was difficult to apply with a marked tendency to orange peel, Blakes is too soft. Epifanes two pack gave the best results by far , i might be tempted to try the jotun though.
