Has anyone recently downloaded Zygribs? I've just got a new computer and all the sources I can find don't work, even the main Zygrib site and the place I originally got it from (a Dutch mag............not that kind.) Most seem to have invalid files etc........................grateful if anyone has a link to an up-to-date download.

Hi Nigel,

Thanks, I've downloaded WinRAR and then done the Zygrib download, and what appears is a WinRAR evaluation copy of Zygribs containing 2 folders and numerous files, but I cannot see anywhere how to simply run it like it says on the Zygrib site. There is no desktop icon, viewer etc. Any clues?

It installs 'standalone', no icons are added anywhere. If you 'extract' all the files using the evaluation copy of WinRAR into a directory, then display that directory in your (assuming this is windows?) Explorer and 'run' the zyGrib .exe file (if you 'hide known extensions' as Windows defaults to you might have to guess which one that is - its the one with the icon showing a little wind arrow with a SW 30 kt wind :)) - not especially user friendly but, hey, it works and its free.

In the expanded version click on zygrib.exe (Assuming you're using a MIcrosoft OS) Then save that to toolbar or as a desktop icon.

Hi Charles. Just down loaded this software using WINRUN. I have the expanded the compressed file, double clicked on Zygrib.exe, this then appears to install the software and run Zygrib (which I have used before). This works fine.

BUT

When I come to run it again, there is no shortcut or anything and neither is it in "ALL Programs" list. So to get it to run, I just double click on Zygrib.exe again and it goes through the install again and runs!

If I drag it onto the desktop - I cannot copy it as a shortcut, it fails to load - missing a dll - which is along side it in the WINRUN uncompressed file.

Or is this what is meant to happen.........

zygrib does not install in the usual sense because it's a completely self-contained program, so all you do is unpack it to a folder of your choice and run it. I always unpack it to C:\Program Files\zygrib (and I create that folder manually) and then manually create a shortcut for zygrib.exe on the desktop. Note: ALL the files must be in the same folder for zygrib to work, that is why you cannot copy zygrib.exe itself to the desktop (only a shortcut).

To answer your last question, yes that is what is supposed to happen. :)

Thanks for that! They must have been brought up in a Unix environment, No registry to amend!

EDIT - All perfect now

Being a Linux programme it stands alone and doesn't go into the Win registry.
I download it and expand it into a root folder /zygrib and shortcut to zygrib.exe on desktop or into the toolbar.
Hope that helps
More often than not I'm running Linux as the OS of choice with a dual boot into one of the Win flavours.

Thanks Charles - all ok now!

When are you off to Greece? - seems that the weather is a bit rubbish down there at the moment. I get out in Mid May - we are going round to Leros where we have a berth in the probably overcrowded marina. Wife is joining for 3 weeks, so we have to be at Kos by 16th June which is a shame that we have to move rather faster than I want..... If you are in the area - it would be great to bump into you.
