I ordered a new Zodiac Cadet Aero 270 during the London Boat Show with delivery scheduled for February 14th. That date has long since come and gone. The dealer cannot tell me when the delayed delivery is due as Zodiac won’t tell him. Zodiac has moved it’s manufacturing from France to China and also switched from welded seams to glued seams for its new models. A number of dealers tell me they consider boats with glued seams are not as good quality as those with welded seams. The price drop may tend to endorse that view.
We suspect there are quality control issues with these new Chinese-built boats and wonder why Zodiac won’t, or can’t, give delivery dates. We have now cancelled our order for the Cadet Aero 270 and bought an ‘old’ French-built Aero 260 model – with welded seams.
If you’ve ordered a new Chinese Zodiac, or are about to, then it might be wise to quiz suppliers closely about guaranteed delivery dates and quality issues.
