Boat is out, had her bum pressure washed, chocked up and is now swathed in tarpaulins on the marina hard standing area.

I was surprised to find a large infestation of tiny mussels all over her bottom, prop and sterndrive. All only maybe 5mm long, but obviously growing, thankfully pressure washing up all the orifices have removed them.

If you are at Viking, Boathouse or Heck be aware!

Guess they came in on commercial traffic. Thank Gawd my policy is to pull her out every winter and drain everything down. The prop is going to have to come off now though, so I can look up inside the exhaust and assess if they have got inside. If so, looks like I am going to have to remove and split the drive too. Soddin things can block the water intake tube.

Fired off an email to the canal and river trust in case they are unaware..........and to confirm if they are zebra mussels or not.

They're here on the Shannon system as well. Seem to like the bottom of boats, don't venture up the sides or into hull fittings; so far so good. Thousands of the little mussels can cling onto the bottom in a very short time.....copper coat???
