The only interesting post for ages on the YW forum is the bizzare one on Reefer Jackets (!)

Time to consign the "club room" to Davy Jones' Locker methinks.

Chewing baccy beyond the cud

Bollox - Here's what you make it. The adventure is on the foredeck. The downside is opting out and hiding in the bilge chewing Stugeron.

Don't you think it strange that crew are always followers ---- I guess that it's the same here.

Thats a shame - I see you have been a fairly active contributor there - The difficulty for you now must be in having to mix it with the lower orders below decks - do you think you can make the change?

Agree about it's content though - perhaps just too many forums and it doesn't really know what it's purpose is?

What care we - tho' white the Minch is,
What care we boys, for wind or weather?

Actually the sartorial debate was rather fascinating.
However where is proper yacht racing chat? That is surely what should be on the Yachting WORLD site.

Limited vocab

Thought that racers only know one word - "starboard!" Didn't know they had enough vocabulary to be able to chat.

Shame that YW good - forum no good

I get a lot of benefit and good advice from reading PBO and YM forums (including some of your posts replies claymore). I have mainly been cruising the last ten years or so (not so you'd know from my relative incompetence). I am an ex dinghy racer and now I have a boat that can actually sail fast I am now starting to get into racing again and I was hoping YW club room would be full of info re racing. No such luck, so I am a bitter man!

Also I'd rather be out on the water than in an office - as has been said that's probably where all the YW mob are which is why it is lean pickings over there.

Re: Shame that YW good - forum no good

Graham, there was a time when YW was absolutely tops; they published plans for DIY construction (eg. the YW Cadet, the YW Buccaneer, etc.) It still was very good under Bernard Hayman (the "inspirator" of the tri-colour masthead light), but now seems to have slid down to being just a glossy coffee table top magazine showing gin palaces with sails. I'm afraid YM is also on the same slippery slope...

YM declining?

Agreed. YM is treading dangerously - there seems to be more design and less info these days.
I'd hate to see YM looking like YW but I suppose economies/accountants dictate that there is more of a crossover of articles and pictures between all IPC titles than there used to be.
I was sorry to see Around The Coast shrink hugely a couple of years ago.

Re: Shame that YW good - forum no good

At the risk of something striking me from above - I like the yachts and yachting website - have a look if you haven't already. The club room does rather give the impression of old blazers smoking pipes sat on leather chesterfields don't you think?

Confused

Are we talking about the forum or the magazine here?
I hardly ever get involved on their forum but do quite enjoy the magazine - life dictates that I will not be a blue water sailor ( I don't really want to be) but I enjoy reading about it and feel that YW has a real strength here. Its also good for the 'top' end of racing and looking at the superyachts. So on balance - between YM,YW and PBO I think we are quite well catered for. In terms of the forums - well its an old debate and little point in regurgitating it here - except to say that the clubroom presumably serves the needs of its regular contributors so fulfilling its purpose.
