When I'm using Navionics on my tablet I log in to my Navionics account, as I do when I need to update the chart card that goes in my chartplotter.

Anyway, when I logged in yesterday I realised that I needed to change the email address I used when I set up the account some years ago as that domain is shortly going to be shut down by the ISP.

I went onto the Navionics website and into "My Account" and "Edit Details" but, despite what Navionics tell you in their own help files, there is no facility to change one's email address. So I emailed them asking how it should be done. Here is today's email reply:

"We cannot replace your old Navionics account with a new e-mail for privacy policy rules (see GDPR)."

Is this some kind of sick joke? Over the last couple of months I have changed my registered email address on dozens of websites but it now appears that they were all illegal changes and that such things are not allowed under GDPR.

The answer is that I must open a new account with a new email address. Of course, I tried this but tried to use my same login username to give me one less new thing to remember and, guess what, the website tells me that that username has already been taken. Jesus Christ. :disgust:

I imagine it's quite a popular user name..

They are wrong!

Under GDPR they **MUST** correct factually inaccurate information. Your email address is now factually inaccurate. They need to correct it.

All of Navionics's account management software is pretty shoddy, so this doesn't amaze me. Obviously trying to use GDPR as an excuse.

I found out several years ago that Navionics will work very hard with spurious reasons to get you to open a new account and pay them again for what you have already paid them.
In my case it was when they introduced their HD version and said the standard version was no longer available - about 4 weeks after I bought the standard version.
A long fight ensued during which they occasionally condescended to answer correspondence from me and others.
Ended with our access being restored but they will never again see any money from me

+1

In my case Google refunded me after I failed to get Navionics to honour my original Android purchase.
