Your views on these two boats

I notice the outboard boat has a Force. I had a Force 70 many boats ago which was frankly awful. If memory serves me correctly it was a rebadged Chrysler which wasn't the best. I had no end of problems getting parts. This was back in 1998 so who knows what it's like now The power trim unit packed up and had no manual override so I had to trailer the boat home with the leg fully trimmed down. When I eventually found a replacement it was ridiculous in price. I also had dreadful corrosion problems and it was only 3 years old when I had it. I'm not sure if the inboard unit is any better but I personally would give the Force a wide berth.

The second boat says it has a 90hp 2 stroke inboard. Looks like it is an inboard boat, so I am guessing the engine description is wrong. Need to find out what is actually fitted.

Warpa, be very carefull buying a boat on Flea Bay
As neale pointed out something is wrong or amiss with the second boat you mention.
It can,t be 90 hp or an outboard
Being as you are relatively new to this lark I would try and source something local
Plus take someone with you who knows the score
I see you have already had engine probs ref your earlier post!!

I would go for an outboard.
At least you can get at them to mend.
Inboards when they do go pear shaped will give you mucho grief.
Buying at the lower end of the market needs a skilled eye and experience imho.

Ref the Force outboard
Yep, was Chrysler was Force then Merc
Bits can still be had
But it's not about the make, it's about condition etc
Trying to source a decent rig for 5 grand ish is difficult, they are about but you have to know what to look for!
Be very carefull and good luck!

Ring Jenny at NBYCo (google norfolk broads yachting company), last weekend they had a Caravelle 16 (i think) in their wetshed, that they were brokering for a customer. boat looked immaculate with a good Suzuki (60 IIRC) HP 4 stroke outboard (I was told low hours) on the back.

Asking price was 6k, seller said to be "motivated"

Looked to be a corker, but a little bit smaller than your desired rig.

* I have no connection with NBYCo except as a hire customer

I nearly went grovelling to the bank manager until common sense prevailed.

From personal experience I wouldn't touch a Force Outboard with a large barge pole, covered in a condom, covered in a tarpaulin, then wrapped in a **** resistant blanket.

Had a Force 70 years ago, in 2 years ownership I never EVER went out in the boat without something going wrong with the engine - sold the whole rig in the end as it was just misery.

You really shouldn't beat around the bush. What are you really saying? :D

That sounds interesting, trying to find a pic to see what one looks like:confused: Some good advice here and we are going to be patient and find the right boat, i know there will be looked after ones out there with history, and need you chaps and chapesses to guide me on the straight and narrow:D

Sorry that looks way too good to be true. The picture is of an American boat, on an American (Not UK legal) trailer and its in America. I think its a scam.

Hmm, i didnt notice the american looking camper or whatever it is in the background:rolleyes:

She also found this, pushing our financial limits but seems a lot better than the sub 3k cruisers we were looking at.

I have emailed and asked on the history and how long he has owned it etc.
