Brb, just off to ask Mrs Google what a stud and joist might be and which anchor these mysterious things might use?
Expansion anchor bolts, Rawlplug make plastic versions, but for security steel anchors are better (I think the plastic ones might float).

If you need a big anchor - rock anchors are the ones to go for.

Sometimes also see brick/block courses marked on tape measures.

More interesting (to me) is I recently found out why the end is loose! The movement of the end clip is the same as its width, meaning if you push it against something the measurements are accurate but if you hook it over something the measurements are still accurate.

But you have to be very careful about wear and tear...my one is a millimeter or two out

these marks on everyday items are often missed by people ...

Another is the side of car that fuel input is ... look on dash at fuel gauge - usually an ARROW is shown - that indicates which side filler is. Clever these ba*****s !!

Forgot Which Side the Gas Tank Is On? There’s a Shockingly Easy Way to Know

With ref to Petrol filler - I really detest idiots who insist on turning car round to get filler same side as pump ... The pump hose is long enough to go other side of car ... just put the bl***y car a touch closer ... where is should be anyway - so others can use the other pump !!!

Quite often the hose isn't long enough, as I know from experience plus the hose rubbing all overvthe bodywork isn't good

That's the theory. Do check with a proper steel rule before you rely on that feature!

ETA, I'd suggest checking any tape or level, the DIY sheds in particular sell some absolute shite.
