your help please,

I am in the early stages of starting a business that i intend to have running by early october. My business will be the manufacture of high quality fibreglass componants specifically for marine applications.

I am at present researching how well my componants would sell in the marine environment and this is where I ask for your opinion.
Could you please let me know which of the following componants would most interest you as a boat owner and which would not, for whatever reason. This is by no means an advert so i ask you to think of them on a general basis and not necessarily specifically for your boat.

1. grp raked radar arch can be lowered and to fit boats 25-33ft ?
2. grp upright radar arch " " " ?
3. grp raked yard mast with provisions for fixing radar, lights etc ?
4. grp one and two tier boarding steps with lockable compartment and permenantly fixed to pontoon.
5. grp rectangular and oval tables can take four plates and universally fit to production legs.
6. grp w/c sink, moulded into a grp counter top which can be cut to fit corners with moulded soap holder etc.

If you have no time to write a message could you just type what numbers you think would be useful and what numbers not.

Could you also let me know if in the past you have thought of something that could be manufactured in grp that would benifit boats and boaters.

! Thank you !

Your personal opinion and any input is extremely valuable to me and is very much appreciated..

Already have a design for no.2 for my boat but do not have the skills and materials to complete it.

If you want to know more about that please send me a PM.

1 & 2 could have a market, I'd be interested in 1 and could offer you a 25 ft boat to prototype on!
3 not sure and all of these three would need to careful research to make universal and you'd have to be competitive with comparison to custom stainless ones.
4, 5 & 6 no problems with, not sure of market for 6 but. Also not sure how the marina would appreciate me screwing steps to their pontoon!

PM if you want a subject, measurements etc.

For us with engine boxes in the cockpit, please come up with those at a reasonable price, say 5ftx2.5ftx2.5ft, with detachable lid, these are of course not exact dimensions but an indication of price would be nice. p.m. with estimates

I've always thought there would be a market for a 4.5kg Calor gas bottle holder with a vent and a lockable Bomar lid or similar. This could be marketed as suitable for older craft upgrading to a ventilated gas locker(for insurance purposes or the BSS scheme) - there are lots of boats around which don't have ventilated lockers. Also one for 2 x 4.5kg Calor bottles & maybe Camping Gaz?

I have one of those on the bathing platform of the Draco carries 1 x Calor Bottle and has no bottom so thats about as vented as you get!
Don't know where it came from but my boat had a BSS at some point so would have ben fitted for that.

What somkething like this?

http://www.swimplatforms.com

And there was tcm's suggestion on another thread a couple of weeks agao, a demountable water slide to fit on a flybridge for the kiddies to play with. Must be able to make some sort of universal aly\SS bracket, coupled to little water pump, reckon that'd be a winner. And unique too.

Now if you could make something out of fibreglass that made boats 2 metres shorter when in the marina. That would be worth a fortune. You would clean up, whilst making John Watson and others very unhappy at the same time

If you charged White or Blue boats extra, everyone would paint there's a differnt colour. HLB wins!

Ah John you won't get any money out of Haydn that way. His boat's a sort of mucky, dirty, off-white, faded cream colour. Hence the name, Mucky Farter

So maybe have to have special pricing for that colour?

Tell u what I'm after, tho - I want a sun hat for my Fairline Targa 33 - to reach out from the radar arch to about a foot beyond the windscreen... detachable? foldable? am I dreaming? :)

I've got it!
We could charge boats by different colour on different days of the week...but (and this is the clever bit) we don't tell anyone until they are standing there moored up with money/credit card in hand. Should win us a few more fans, eh?

CGN
We probably would have an issue unless we controlled the use such a product......
For example, if someone bought one, fixed it, took it away after a year and so on and so forth over the years by multiple customers, the integrity pf the pontoons would be undermined.
However, if there was a demand for such a product, we would work with the manufacturers/distributors to offer it to berth holders. Interesting idea I must say.
