After looking at the princess 45, i think that this is too big for me, so have been looking at smaller boats (37' - 41') and have come across the windy 37 grand mistrall, in all looks a very nice boat, and very practical, due to the hard top! Looked at the MBY boat test, and it got 1.5mpg at 38kts, so very efficient too!! If you could have any boat between 37 and 41 feet, which one would you pick??

It would be very hard not to choose the new Sunseeker Portofino 35, which is simply gorgeous. However if you don't want people thinking your a member of the Romford Navy (or a drug dealer) then Fairline Targa 40 (with dinghy garage) would be a close second. If that's still a little too trendy then perhaps a Princess V40 for classic looks and bullet proof quality.

Course, if you're an old man then you could go for a Flybridge.

Have looked at the S38 on the net, and looks promising, what sort of engines do you have, and what about performance/economy with your S37?

Looked at the targa, and not for me, felt too cramped in the cabin!! The V40 looks a nice boat, but can't find much info about her!

<font color=blue>Whats wrong with a Princess 435 and an aged Volvo Estate car for road use and a garden tractor/mower for around the garden?

Is this a badge thing Chris? only there was an article recently in MBY or MBM where they started off saying Peter Stringfellow a Sunseeker owner, would not by a Sealine over a Portifino 35 mainly for due to image. Though in practical terms the S38 has the edge, accomodation, beam, price etc.

Some people have to buy a BMW or Merc cos it has "the badge" even though other makes of car are just as good IMHO

Matt
Welcome to the forum by the way
I had the choice with engines of KAD 43 KAD44 or the 300
I chose the 43 because I have the boat in the Med and I wanted as little electronic complexity as possible. I am concerned with the 300 (280hp) because the basic engine and leg is designed for 200hp (or even 180hp it might be!) and to boost the power that much may be asking for trouble.
I looked at the S38 at the boatshow and although the length dimension is the same (just over 37ft) it seemed more spacious. On further investigation Sealine have got rid of a lot of storage space which was the big plus of the S37
I get 35knots on a flat day which is good enough for me. Fuel consumption I don't like to talk about is about 50litres/hr which will be the same for all boats of this type.
The big big plus for Sealine is after sales service, very helpful guys, all of 'em (even the Chairman who has answered questions for me on this forum)

I'm just going through this dilemma at the moment. I've looked at the following - and concluded the following (in my/families opinion only)...

Windy 37 HT - not enough headroom down below
Portofino 400 - hmmm nice and solid, but wide and heavy
Princess V40 - also nice, lighter and narrower than 400 above
Camargue 46 - funny aft cabin arrangement
Targa 39 - nice if you can get one in good nick
Phantom 38 - really nice, but couldnt afford it

Good luck - may bump into you at the brokerage...

Couple you missed off your list....

Cranchi Endurance 39 (tender garage therefore limited accomodation).

Sealine C39 (flybridge without the flybridge). I was pleasantly surprised when I viewed this boat at the LBS (stop sniggering everyone) but at £200,000 seems expensive compared to F37 (also £200k) which is a proper flybridge with a flybridge. F36/F37 are boats I've heard a lot of good things about.

Your list looks good, and the lack of headroom in the windy, was picked out in the boat test in MBY! Haven't looked at the portofino, but sunseekers are very stylish! Going on about the cranchi, very cheap, but don't you have to move the tender out every day, to do the engine checks?? or is that just on the windy 40 bora?? They should copy Bavaria, on their new BMB 38 sport, where the bottom of the tender garage lifts up (with tender in) so easier access to engines!! I like the idea of trimax drives, as would increase economy/performance (i think!), though C39 doesn't seem to have that much room?!? decisions decisions!

Thanx for all your help so far!
