Young mike Perham seems to be coping well so far .His dads boat has been having rudder pintle problems. They spent some time on sea anchors in winds up to force 9.

Interesting to read from Mikes daily update on the website

When I put out my brand new sea anchor I unwrapped it out of the packet, knotted it and put it out. Within half an hour it had completely shredded so used a rubber bucket on the end of a long line, which is doing a great job.

[/ QUOTE ] good job he had a decent bucket then.I would be interested to find out what make the sea anchor was. It doesnt sound like the conditions were too severe.

I had reservations about this adventure but now wish them al;l the best of luck.

See they are heading for Lanzarote for repairs, with about 250M to go. The lad does seem to be coping well though haven't seen an update for a couple of days

At one point yesterday dad seemed close to drifting into a lee shore, and losing his rudder so early does make you worry about the strength of the boats

However, they are there and doing it so good luck to them. If they can pick up the trades and keep the boats in one piece they may yet defy their critics

The same could be said for the Volvo 70s, the Open 60s, ...... yet they don't seem to have got quite such a hard time these guys have.

It would be ironic if son has to rescue dad on the way to Lanzarote,no?

It is looking as though Mike is made of 'the right stuff'.

If he makes it across in a sound and seamanlike manner then clearly this young man will be someone to watch and will have attained something that no one can ever take away from him.

Wishing him well and a bon voyage

I see there hasn't been a position update since 1400, very unusual so far. I've seen an update every hour that I've logged on. Also, the latest weather routing update was Saturday

Presume somebody shore-side is keeping an eye on them, suspect they're in big seas right now

Nothing on his site since 25th? I read his last blub, and he had his first experience of squalls!!!! On a transat. Oh well, I am sure he is a fast learner, and will probably make it, despite being very inexperienced. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I hope for their sakes that they don't encounter weather like we have had last night.... not the sort of thing you would want to encounter in a 28' yacht mid-Atlantic.
