You wan' speed sailin'....?

Re: You wan\' speed sailin\'....?

Back in 1998, I met a man who was designing these. I tied up alongside him in a F8-9 in Bonifacio 'cos his boat was about the only safe thing to tie to. It was a massive 1935 steel-hulled 65ft sailing pilot boat from Cherbourg which he had salvaged and was bumming around the Med in.

He was a hippy-type named Hugo. In the bow of this tatty hulk of a boat, he had an office stuffed with electronics and technical literature. He was working with Dassault via a satellite link and showed me pictures of 40+ knot boats he had designed.

A real character. He and his wife Marie-Jo made us very welcome and we spent about three days with them, sheltering from the storm.
