... in a yacht taxi. The first time we have ever used one.

A blissful weekend on the English Riviera - sorrry no pics - and a wonderful jaunt from Torquay to Dartmouth in shorts and T shirts all the way. We made a last minute decision to stop for lunch, but had left the tender back at Torquay, so found a pontoon as near to the town as possible - about 30 metres from the town quay - and called for a yacht taxi.

After about a minutes journey and 30 metres later we were relieved of £8 and when asked if it was for a return - nope, one way. So after a very pleasant lunch we went back to the boat via the same taxi - another £8.

This is not a rant at the taxi as £2 per person is very reasonable, but just doing some rough calculations I reckon the cost (obviously not fuel burn) equated to £428 per mile for the 4 of us (based on a round trip of 60 metres) and wondered if anyone could better that !

Pointers for future reference : -

1. Remember to take tender or
2. Take a closer at almanac for a pontoon from where you can walk ashore
3. Moor up further away to reduce the cost per mile !

Yarmouth is the same. £10 for a pontoon for 4 hours if one is available or if not, it's £6.50 for a mooring buoy (about 50 metres from the quay) then £2 per person each way. I normally have 4 on board so that's £22.50 for a couple of hours ashore. Bargain!

Missed that - I was busy trying to resolve why my Raymarine C70 has stopped working for the second time in a year - more expense !
