A revolutionary new motor boat has been unveiled that will require 75 per cent less horsepower than a fibreglass boat of the same size. The 54ft 540SE utilises next generation carbon nanotube (CNT) enhanced prepreg Arovex® composites, and will weigh less than 3,700kg.
Lets imagine that for the sake of theory they invent an amazingly strong composite out of which you can produce a hull the thickness of a sheet of paper.
It will weigh 50 kilos for a 50 ft boat and a pair of 10hp single cylinder Petters will give you your 40 knot design speed(please suspend belief for a mo).
This thing will be at the mercy of every tiny wavelet and light breeze gust that comes near,lively will not describe it in any decent sea.
So now you have to add 30 tons of ballast to keep the thing stable....and are promptly back were you started.
