Confession time then. I have been sailing for 2 and a bit years now, and in that time have lost the following overboard (whilst marina based I should add) :

1 spanner
1 knackered furling drum from rotostay system

But, on Saturday, I lost a wind generator overboard at Bradwell /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. The whole thing, not just a bracket, pole or a blade, the whole damned lot in one go. Thankfully retrieved Sunday low water with a quick swim in the very murky depths with the mullet. Thanks again to Roger, David, Mike and others.

There you go, I feel better with that off my chest.

So, what have you lost ??

1. Phillips screwdriver
2. 12v cordless drill
3. Torch (remained in sight and illuminated for about 30 mins at 30 feet)
4. Spinnaker bag
5. Liferaft, Lifebouy and cowl vent (swept off by breaking seas)
6. Spreader cap
7. Sunglasses (from spreaders while conning in coral)
8. Outboard when mounting bracket broke (recovered in 6 hours)
9. Leadline
10. Anchor windlass lever.
11. One shoe.

Those are the ones I can remember over the last 25 years.

We entertained the moored boats at Wrabness yesterday...

SWMBO and the SWMBO-ette were on foredeck duty as we approached the bouy. Hooked on perfectly - then dropped the boathook overboard before they'd got the line on. Away it floated.

A chap aboard a Hallberg Rassy waved and offered us his hook, but I wasn't giving in without a fight. Around we went, and, at the second attempt collected the boathook: SWMBO was crouched on the sugar-scoop leaning out to pick it up.

Job done.

We then picked up the bouy OK, apart from SWMBO calling ""forward" as we approached the bouy, when she meant to shout "reverse!". /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I then hid behind the dodgers in embarassment, as I noticed a certain "Wherry" of this parish moored a few yards away....

Numerous things!
Specific ones come to mind -
I especially remember the nice new pair of expensive (cool?!) sunglasses I was wearing whilst working on the dorade vent just as it bounced across the deck and over the side. Quick reactions meant a safe and swift recovery at the expense of the sunglasses, a soaking and a fair share of ribbing from the locals.
On another occasion, SWMBO lost her keys including one of those fancy Audi electronic key thingies off the side of the pontoon. It took until the evening for them to be recovered from the muddy depths (one of those big magnets). Took it apart and dried it out, new batteries and it's still fine four years later!
I also heard a story of a very expensive new boat being launched with one of those nice big folding props. As it was put into gear there was a strange multiple thud on the hull and a lack of drive. Seems someone had forgotten to tighten the blades up!

Oh yes, I forgot the saucepan. Crew did washing up, filled saucepan up with cold water to rinse off the tomato soup, then lobbed the soupy mixture over the side. Saucepan had detachable handles, so she was left with handle in hand while pan drifted away.

'Looking on the bright side' she said 'now you have a spare handle!'

Morgana is far too modest to say so, but he and and I managed to mislay a winch handle belonging to Stugeron Steve in the middle of the Channel, a couple of years ago.

A fine co-operative venture. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

when we first had the Ramsholt mooring was attending to something really important at the stem Hd was wearing a cheap ( expensive to me @ the time ) smock type oily top with a pouch pocket across the chest. afore mentioned pouch was temp stowage for assorted spanners ect. well i had to genuflect causing all items held within the pouch to discharge into the water around mooring 202.

other items
swimbo lost my bestest shirt from the guard rails off Pin Mill
Co 32 jockey pole approx S/ Galloper
Vetus vent @ West Hinder
winch handle cant remember where
the odd boat hook but have also found some ( possibly Bernie's )
assorted peanuts part digested ( its like grape shot coming up )
when racing one time the the crew put a winch handle through the Bulk Hd compass, that made an awfully slippery cockpit
one tool overboard retrieved by a mate with his brand new unused mega magnet

At least one pair of Rayban Aviators for every year of racing.
At least 1, sometimes 2 or even 3 winch handles per season of racing.
1 new Deck shoe into Calais harbour causing my (ex) trademark wearing off odd shoes for the next 5 years.
1 mast, boom, sails and assorted rigging(standing and running)
1 kite, complete with sheets
Multitude of tools over the side, but never the cheap or rusty ones.
1 CQR and 10m or so of chain.
A couple of boathooks, non floating
1 new 2hp Mariner off RCYC pontoon
1 Full Circle mug, but 2 back in return, thanks Karen.
Untold amounts of shackles, pins or both

no wonder I am penniless
