This whole Hi-Lux thing featured on Top Gear some time back where they tried and failed to destroy a Hi-Lux.

Finally they craned it right to the top of a large tower block of flats that were due for demolition. Then the they dynamited the flats and the Hi-Lux came crashing down with thousands of tons of rubble. It was brutally dug out by a large earth mover. The chassis was badly cracked and the whole thing looked completely destroyed. But...they put the battery back in and lo-and-behold, it started and could still be driven (just).

I bet Toyota marketing were beside themselves with glee!!

Yeah, I remember watching it with a boaty friend, it was submerged just up the road at Burnham on Sea, loads of tide, silt, sand etc. To survive that was amazing!

I also watched it and remember the surprise on the faces around them when it coughed into life. It was an amazing display of strength, and have been surprised that Toyota have not used it in their advertising.

I saw it too, and they repeated it on one of the "best of...." programmes in the summer; classic Clarkson indeed. I seem to remember that he was subsequently fined for damaging a protected tree, when he deliberately drove the Hilux into it. How very English.............
