We have raders, plotters, sat nav, compass's apparently non of it nessessary-???
Well not according two two guys i work with, they this year bought jet skis 1300 cc superbeasties.
Last w/end they decided to jet round the isle of wight. No sweat!
They launched at gosport and headed to the needles they got as far as Sandown and thought it was a 'long way' so beached to get "navigational information" in the form of----a post card with an IOW map on it! with this clipped to the dash they were off and made it no probs, made a bit of a mockery of my 5 grand plus nav aids! enough to buy a +_?>>< jet ski! well secondhand. So forget lecy products just 10p for card from the kiosk on the prom?? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I met a guy who navigated from the Firth of Forth to the solent using an AA map. Personally, I reckon the more you know about the hazards, the more info you want, and its no good relying 100% on good fortune!

Met a bloke in Delet once. Who said he did not understand charts. So used a route planner. His wife could not stand rouge seas, so told him to go faster and faster, the more rough it got.

Mind his boat was a hell of a mess, cracks everywhere. Hope he made it back!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Haydn, quite right to slap his wrist for pointing out spelling mistake, but Rouge Sea/Red Sea was quite funny, you know. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Surveyor told me guy left the Humber to go down to the south coast, said it was easy just keep the land on the Starboard side.
When he phoned and said he was going great and the land was on the port side they got the rescue services.
DOH!

Brilliant!! Surely though, with the IOW, if you go in one direction and follow the coast line, you will end up back where you started /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have heard (but never actually seen) of peeps using RAC road maps and OS maps for similar navigation purposes. Well, why not for goodness sake?? The sea is bluey/green and the same depth all over innit??

Yes, yes yes. If you'd been round here long enough, you would understand that the odd spelling mistake, typing errors or other, is quite acceptable. Even not being able to spell!!
