Just seen my new neighbour who has bought an electric launch. He told me he nearly caused an accident with a narrow boat but avoided it by driving into the reeds. He told me he had shouted an apology to the driver of the NB and received 2 fingers in return and told me that under the circumstances he didn't blame him.
I quizzed him as to what happened. It appears he was travelling upstream and met a NB coming downstream on the bend.
Here's the chuckle. It wasn't him on the wrong side of the river, it was the NB. When I explained to him that he wasn't at fault for the incident, he looked relieved and said to his wife "see, I told you on the river you drive on the same side as on the continent, that bloke should have been saying sorry to me"

always a problem, especially on bends, long narrowboat, tight bend you have to take the turn as you can,no excuse for rudeness tho, most nb owners expect problems on bends and i always expected the worst when a boat came towards me,usually hire boats got the rules of the road wrong, but they are out enjoying themselves and its a lot to learn, tolerace is the name of the game,i loved my years on the cut and i hope this unfortunate incident has not put your
neighbour off.narrowboaters are usually a helpfull happy forgiving lot, admittedly i,m talking about the cut,but found most folk on the rivers the same

"an apology to the driver of the NB and received 2 fingers in return"

Not very helpful or forgiving.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
