Just a few words in praise of the level of service and quality of the rope work provided by Simon and his team at You Boat Chandlery in Gosport. The knowledge and willingness of the whole team to help, make visiting You Boat an absolute pleasure and they are highly competitive on price as well. Well done guys.

Yes they are very good down there - I worked on board a 75 Cat and used them alot for various things. Another chandler across the road was quite good too.

Not the best stocked chandlery, but they will get things in if they don't have them.

I guess it depends what you are looking for. A recent tour of the chandleries in Portsmouth area found none that stocked 259 sockets or plugs which surprised me. When I questioned I was told little demand. Surprised as small items, easily tucked away.

The more that chandlers fail to stock stuff like that, the more one will go to the internet as first port of call so to speak.

Good for antifoul (with a returns policy for unopened tins) and lines.

Youboat have a rubbish tools section but Halfords is across the road.

I suspect that Chandlers as we know them yesterday/today will mostly disappear in the next few years which is a shame as there is little more exciting than browsing a maze of boaty bits. I overheard two guys in Marine Superstore (Port Solent) playing with the VHFs on display saying "I will order on ebay".

I have just bought a new switch panel and sets of LED festoons off t'internet. I would rather that cash went into the local chandlers even if few quid more for the convenience of it.

Edit: Yes they can order and 'get in'. But that is just like ordering off the internet so inconvenient.
