Hi Yottie here (waves wight flag!) - am contemplating one of those big floating villas you MB boys have, primarily to moor as a summer liveaboard either in Balearics, or Sardinia.

Just wondering what sort of funds you budget for marina, fuel, maintenance etc - with a £ 100k budget, a few mid 80's 45' boats caught my eye. Re fuel, I doubt I'd do much - 10 hours a weekend, and a 14 day 50 hour cruise.

thanks

As far as Majorca is concerned, a 15m mooring will cost you €12k-15k pa. Fuel currently costs about €1/litre. You say you will do 10hrs/weekend + a 50hr annual holiday but thats equivalent to 550 hours pa. You wont do anywhere near that. The average usage for a mobo is less than 100 hrs pa and, as far as I can see, liveaboards hardly move their boats at all (doubtless due to the pot plants which seem to sprout everywhere on liveaboard boats). So, if you do 100 hours per year at 20kts, you can reckon on about 5 litres per nautical mile so thats an annual fuel bill of €10k. I guess you wont be doing that much or at least, you'll do it a lot slower to save fuel. Servicing 2 big diesels costs about €2k pa plus you ought to budget at least another €3k pa for other repairs. Add about €1k pa for insurance. Another factor in Spain is matriculation tax. If you spend more than 183 days pa on your boat, you are resident for tax purposes and you will be obliged to pay a one off tax of 12% of the value of your boat

thanks - gulp!

thanks indeed - shocked at the mooring price. Any idea how that element compares to either a monohull yacht or cat?

re fuel, servicing, that is more in line with expectations
