I have a problem. So what do I do? I'll go and ask the ybw crew.

I want to insure my yacht and have received a sensible quote from St Margarets (who insured my previous boat). Trouble is they want a survey done and I'm guessing they probably want it in English. I should now mention that the yacht is in Hamburg, Germany.

I've searched the www, and I've fired off a few emails to some local surveyors but, so far had no response.

Of course I could arrange insurance with a German company but, although my German is not bad, I can't understand insurance docs (from my experience with car insurance, they use some hybrid language that not even my German girlf can understand).

Another option is Pantaenius because they have offices in Hamburg and are multinational/lingual - but do they do/arrange surveys? (btw, I fired off a request for a quote to them and am waiting on that before I call them up).

So, it's a longish shot, but someone out there may have some advice. I hope.

Cheers

A surveyor for insurance purposes that Pantaenius pointed me to at Stralsund, not a million miles from Hamburg, is:

Just a thought...

Just looked at your blog, and wondered whether you're planning to live aboard your Vega. If so, make sure the insurers know and accept this. St Margarets, for example, specifically exclude losses arising when the boat is being used as a houseboat (which they define as "where the Vessel is used for overnight accommodation during the Laid Up period, other than for occasional overnight stays by You, or at any time while she is being used as a permanent residence").
