Has anyone got experience of doing the YM Offshore in the Canaries? I'm looking at one school based in Lanzarote, and it's an excuse for some Winter sun early next year. Just wondering if they cut the mustard down there.

Had bareboat chartered in Tenerife (visiting La Palma and La Gomera ) in January this year, and felt pretty basic, save for getting a response from the marina's when trying to secure a berth! Heard not so great things about one school in the Western Canary Islands.

Have previously done the Coastal Ticket in the Solent (2020), Day Skipper in West Cork (2016), and Comp. Crew in Gibraltar (2013).

I've coached a few preparation weeks and coastal skipper courses in Lanzarote. It's not the easiest place to get people up to speed mostly due to lack of other traffic. Also during the winter, it may feel warm for a few hours a day on land, but it's cold out on the water. Plus if you are susceptible to seasickness, the Atlantic swell is difficult for some to deal with.

Gib is my favourite for Coastal and offshore exams.

All my opinion, of course.
