Is anybody else noticing that the editorial, articles and general coverage in YM and YW is the same? I get YM, YW, PBO and some other sailing mags every month but I've started to notice that the content of the first two is often virtually the same.

Or is it just me?

Have brought this up before (at least between PBO and YM), but Kim assured me that there is fierce competion between the mags. So obviously coincidence.
Still, by definition, you (and I) go on buying them!!

Funny when I bought lottery ticket to-night, on the shelf were three boating mags, all with lead article on sailing in fog.
Are they saving money by buying articles in bulk ???

Nooo

Ironically it is competition between mag teams, not collusion, that causes these accusations of mirror content from time to time. What about car mags from different stables each making a major on the latest Ford this or speed camera that? I don't think their teams are being accused of meeting down the pub first to swap notes.

All three yachting mags were going to go chasing the fog angle because of the MCA enquiry into the Moody run-down in the Channel. Had they not done so there is an evens chance that readers would be questioning whether the mags were aware and cared about such things. I haven't had a chance to do so but would in fact be fascinating to check the content and conclusions of all three -- because the articles have certainly been written by different authors.

Fog related articles aside you would also find very many real differences between YM and YW.

Re: Nooo

Kim,

I must take issue with you here.

It's not just the fog articles. In my opinion and I believe that of other 'readers' who I talk to, the content of YM and YW is becoming very very similar and is often much the same. PBO seems to remain distinct.

IPC has all of these publications and I would have thought they were being aimed at a different area of sailing? Overlap there will always be but I think it's too much and obviously others in here do also. However as said elsewhere I keep on buying all of them..

As I'm in a grumpy mood today anyone notice which mag recently had it's editorial almostly completely made up of stuff from the same 'Pay money and sail with us around the world' outfit?
