I found a few handy tips in this article, but the author does seem to have a liking for baking powder and sodium bicarbonate!

- Using petroleum jelly to mask through-hull fittings before antifouling. Why mask them?
- Using petroleum jelly to lubricate hoses when fitting.
- Using surgical spirit to dry a sail before applying a patch. Surgical spirit often has castor oil in it.
