Yet another electrics query..

Yes,although with glass fuses its rare but, blade type fuses also suffer but this type is caused by corrosion the outer surface appears ok but the internal matrix decomposes, ceramic industrial fuses are the worse ones for this type of fault and have seen many that will run say 1/2 hp motor but wouls not pass enough for a 10 hp motor.

You say there is 12 volts at the panel but when you switch anything on the voltage disappears. The first question is where are you actually measuring the voltage as on many boats the voltmeter supply goes back to the batteries and feed a selector switch.

This is one clue as to how far back to go inspecting for a poor connection.

A poor connection may allow fractions of an amp to flow which is enough to power a voltmeter but then totally break down and not allow the current to flow to power accessories.

This poor connection could be anywher between the domestic panel connection on the panel and the batterery switches and in either the red positive or black negative lines.

This is just a job of patiently checking connections and lets hope there are less connections than on Headmistress's 32 ft Trojan (about 300) which is the last time I went through this /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Loose connections can be a pain on a boat and the reason for accessories mysteriously stopping working at the most inoportune moments or even giving unstable readings such as tachos.
