yet another eberspacher problem

Nobody seems to have mentioned it but have you checked out the control unit?
When you go through the fault list and the troubleshootiing section of the manual an awful lot of problems seem to stem from and be cured by changing, the control unit.
I just had mine replaced, an auto-electrical engineer came to the boat, plugged a new one in and it all worked fine. It was a 10 minute job to diagnose and fit. Sadly they are an expensive component which accounted for most of the £400 bill. My Eberspacher is about 6 years old - the control units were manufactured by Eberspacher at that time but the new improved unit is made by Varta I believe - well, thats what the man told me!

They are available from sarkblue on ebay for about £200, as you say, simple job to change

I had an Eber D2 on my last boat. Great when it's working but expensive when it goes wrong. Reckon it cost me £400 a year - ecu, programmer etc. Seriously thinking about a drip feed heater on next boat but don't like the 3" flue.

I wonder if Eberspacher have ever actually manufactured the control units? The remote control unit used in the D1LC era was manufactured by Hella and just has an Eberspcher part number on a paper tape on it - the screen printed data is all Hella.

I do like the idea of using an in-line filter, rather than the wildly priced bit of metal gauze. Filters like that were always fitted to British motorbikes and many of us tore them off as they blocked so frequently! Now where are the spare filters...?
