My Yeoman Navigator has suddenly failed to reference correctly. When aligning the third and last reference position on the chart it comes back with reference error which is not correct. Could this be due to the internal battery being flat? Has anyone replaced the internal battery in a Yeoman?

You need to speak with yeoman as it Depends on the model and year as some are easy to change (later models) and some require soldering in. The problem I had was the display was erratic and fading etc. Your problem doesn't seem to be the same. I know sounds cheeky but have you gone the coordinates again on the chart and on the yeoman. I say this I am often having to rectify my errors. or could you have a datum error on the set up? Either way I would contact yeoman.

Second the above. very helpful peeps, but deal directly with Precision Navigation in Brantham, not Tinsley Electronics who are billed as the "official service agents" they are truly terrible people to deal with. FWIW, it sounds like you have a faulty mat, where the matrix has broken. This is quite a common fault with this kit and means you need a new mat. Try moving the chart about and altering the reference points to one side, you might be able to identify an area where the mat is not referencing. A knackered battery is evidenced by the Yeoman "forgetting" co-ordinates when you switch it off- it makes no difference when the thing is powered up. The battery lives in the box attached to the mat. Undo the six screws on the underside, carefully remove the cover and you will see the battery in its' holder. Remove and take to Currys, Maplin whatever and get a replacement for a couple of quid.

I had a reconditioned mat fitted by Tinsley Electronics as well as a new battery and software updating,it some years ago now but the service was excellent.
Remember that if you fit a new battery yourself you will lose all the stored info unless you can provide a power source temporarily.

But if the battery is knackered it has lost all the info anyway. How long does it take to re-reference a few dozen charts? Tinsley wanted £35.00 to change the battery, plus carriage, and it ain't cheap to send something like a Yeoman. A new battery was 2 quid from Currys.

I am doing this from memory, however I do know some of the marked reference points on folio 5601 do not match with those input by Yeoman.

You need to find out from the Yeoman plotter the lat/long for each reference point and then mark your chart accordingly. I know for sure that one of the charts which covers Poole Harbour is totally wrong, however a bit of time and common sense soon sorts it out.

Has anyone replaced a battery in the portable version? I tried but failed to part the casing without splitting it. I found Tinsley very helpful, that was 3 years ago.

Depends on the year my old one wasn't like that. If he speaks with them will be abale to tell him as they did with me if it's possible or not.
