Yellow gell coat behind instruments, whats that all about?

As the title says, I'm replacing the instruments and the gell coat is yellow underneath them.

What has caused this and is there any thing I can do to restore the nice white color of the rest of the coach roof.

Oxalic acid in some form or another, home made with wallpaper paste as a thickener, Y10, Boatlife Teak Cleaner, etc. Many boat cleaning products contain it, often at high price. I have a powder version called Hull Cleaner, came in a yellow plastic container, bought years ago it lasts a long time.

Do you mean the gel coat is more cream or is it literally a bright yellow?

Unless it is bright yellow, I suspect what you are seeing is the original color of the gelcoat... unbleached by ultraviolet light as the rest of the coach roof has been.

i'll take a picture... the trouble is its dark when I get home at this time of year and even then, the boat is living under a green tarpaulin at the moment which will distort the colours.

If you've used a gasket between the instrument and the coachroof, it's possible something has leached out and stained the gelcoat.

1200 wet & dry then buff it up, will be like new.
