Hello all, just curious as to the annual fees and costs paid to use the thames, outlined below are what i pay on the Shannon in Ireland.
Mooring/marina (40ft) €1520.00
locks and bridges € 1.50/use
IWAI membership/optional € 50.00
registration € 0.00
plus the usual insurances/fuel+vat/maintenence/beer money...

I suppose its similar on the thames?

Does that mean £1.50 every time you go under a bridge or use a lock?

My 30' is £453 p.a on the Thames, which given the shortness of our decent weather season is frankly a rip-off. Since they hiked the licence fees I came off the Thames and will only pay for a short term for a holiday, and that is £90. I have the 30footer, plus two dinghys on the River Wey, total annual fee £177. That's a bargain to me as I have to moor somewhere and mooring means an annual licence.

Are you saying its £177 a year to moor and licence your boat /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I pay @ £800 for mooring and @£200 licence fee /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

No, sorry for ambiguity there, I meant £177 for annual licence for cruiser plus two dinghys, mooring is £285 a quarter so still cheaper than the Thames although it was for many years £170 a quarter until the owner retired and the NT took over last Summer.

My friend has moved his narrowboat to the Shannon Erne waterway. He pays the cheapish marina fees & licence, but says a lot of people pay their licence for first year, then not again. Moorings are free in a lot of places if not a marina. You get a card which you pay money on and this is used for the 1.5 euro's to go through the mechanised locks/use of shower etc. If you want to, very cheap boating, huge lakes/very well maintained navigations, hardly see more than a few boats per day on the move, wonderful really!

We spent two weeks on the Shannon back in 98, had a fantastic time, althhough had problems with summer flood water All the riverside ammenities were very good, all paid with a prepayment card. came hard having to tip the lock keepers where there was one, but at least they were a happy bunch and pleased to be of service.
